Great score, Karam! Man, I love those vintage cardbacks!

'85 is definitely my favorite Joe year followed closely by '84. '84 had such a killer Cobra lineup! Baroness, Firefly, Copperhead, Wild Weasle, Storm Shadow, and my personel favorite Zartan. Then there's Scrap-Iron... A decent figure who's sadly overshadowed by his amazing piers.

The best part? All the '84 stuff was still available in '85. :)

Something I've wanted for many years, but never did pick up for one reason or another. A real "grail" for me, as you might expect if you have ever seen my avatar:

Very Nice. If only they still made action figures this great.....

I'm glad to see new life in this thread. I thought it was dead after the split.

Goonies never say die!

Nah, I was just messing. I moved it after your post. :D

Wow, that looks amazing! Joes always had the best artwork for packaging.

Yup, '85 was the best year for Joe, right before the characters got too overly specific concerning their design (i.e neon-green laser trooper, bright-red pacifist medic, dull-grey computer tech, etc).

I've said it before and I'll say it again. 85' was great. But there were still plenty of great figures from 86' to 90'. In my opinion it didn't get really bad until 92'

I think it was pretty hit or miss after 86--Hasbro just started releasing too much product for them all to be awesome. About half of the 87 figures were really cool (Outback, Tunnel Rat, Falcon, Jinx, Marauders, Techno-Viper, Cobra Commander), while the others were duds (Sneak Peak, Fast Draw, Psych-out, Cobra La, Raptor, Crystal Ball) and they seemed to continue that until the line finished. 1985-87 were my peak times with Joe and I even remember being quite picky during those years.

Yeah I hear ya. To me when the packaging went from having the weapons loose in the packaging to being all the same color and being attached to that rack thing, I was over it. GI Joe "jumped the shark" at that point.

I just picked up a large lot of toys not too long ago and the seller threw in a bunch of loose Joes. They all happen to be those later figures and yuck, they're horrendous.

And a random eBay stroll tonight yielded this. I have a feeling I'm heading down a dark (and expensive) path...

That Snoodles set looks awesome. I'm not a Star Wars collector, but that packaging is totally classic looking.

Yeah. . .but in fairness, Flint was the most excellent action figure ever made. No one ever had a real chance of doing better.

LOL I never thought about it that way about those guys.

^ The 25th Anniversary Flint is pretty sweet too.

Not the single-carded one - either the "Hall of Heroes" or later 5-pack version is the one to get.

I think GI Joe really started to lose its way in '86. '86 was a great year - one of my favourites - but you could see it was starting to edge into sci-fi a bit too much. It got a bit worse in '87 and then more and more so as the years went on.

And you're right - the designs started to stray from GI Joe's military roots a bit more. I love having a bit of James Bond-style sci-fi in GI Joe, but I figure it's gotta be maybe a (roughly) 70/30 ratio of realistic military stuff/colours and more fantastic, sci-fi elements.

I think the bright-red pacifist thing works for Lifeline, though. Bright red, because he's para-rescue, so that would actually be a good uniform for him in certain situations (it'd be nice if there was a "combat" version though). I think the pacifist thing works on a certain level - not to the over-simplified kiddie version on Sunbow, of course, but it's something that could have been developed quite well in a more mature incarnation of GI Joe fiction.

Yeah, expensive if you're gonna get everything carded.

I wouldn't mind getting one of those to open, though. I love the (pre-SE) Rebo Band!

I hear Max is a bit tough to get in mint, un-discoloured condition, though.

That's a REALLY nice Max Rebo band in the package. Looks flawless ! That set MISB has been on my want list for a while.

Yeah I've wanted one since childhood but always put it on the back burner. The auction was a total shock with a bin of $50. It was the only listing the seller had and he claimed it was priced low for a quick sale so I'm kind of nervous. We'll see what happens. I'm generally not a MIB collector but this might stay that way and the rest of the set I work on will be loose.

Man $50 is a steal ! That piece is easiy worth $150 in the condition it appears to be in. I hope it works out for you.

Anyone ever bought cards and bubbles from Beggar's Canyon? I'm thinking I might go this route for some of my other figures, if their product is of a good quality.

Oh wow, they actually have Clash of the Titans cards too! I've always wanted a carded Charon but they don't come up very often. I might have to consider that.

I bought a Greedo kit from them. They're not bad, but not glossy like the real cards.

This is the main reason that I usually dont buy repro cards, it's just not the same as the real thing.

And congrats on Yoda. He looks great!
