I bought a Greedo kit from them. They're not bad, but not glossy like the real cards.
I'm not familiar with Star Wars cards, but Joe cards have a pretty matte finish, so the repro option may not be as bad an alternative.

Frankly, I'm just not willing to spend $200-700 per figure to get all my favorite guys carded, but I love the artwork, and figure this could give me the feeling that I could go back in time and just pull these guys off the shelves and display them unmolested. I'm sure I'm not the only one in this thread who has had those dreams where I am walking through a toy store filled with vintage figures :D

This never even existed, but is very very cool IMO:

Reminiscent of the Takara release.

some years ago i bought a cd off ebay that had all of the sw cardbacks as i wanted to put some of my vintage stuff back on card. it was like 50 bucks. had all the fronts & backs & variations. picked up some bubbles too but i forget where. with the right cardstock & a good printer it can be a lot of fun.
i'm sure someone has made the same for the joe line as well. they aren't exactly like factory cards but damn close & when put in a clamshell & hung up you just see a mint card.........:)

Even if you don't go so far as recarding the figure, the cardback would still make a nice background to display a figure.

I personnaly don't let reproductions of vintage figures in my toy room. I wont even buy originals if the p.o.p. is cut out. It's a bit of a complex I suppose. But I can somewhat understand some peoples desire for these reproductions. What with the price and all.

Do you still have that CD? I just got a cool idea of resizing the images and putting all the card fronts together into a giant poster. That would look SICK!

I see your point and I'm kind of the same. I'd rather have a really beat original carded figure, actually I kind of prefer beat up cards, it adds to the history of it for me.

I would love to have all original stuff, but I'm not sure if it is a deal-breaker or not. If I could find a somewhat beat up 1985 Snake Eyes carded for under $150, I would jump on it. But I don't see that happening.

I'm getting the Zartan card first (which isn't a repro considering he was never released that way) and will see how I feel about it in-hand once I get that put together.

That looks exactly like the Funskool cardback only without the "International Heroes" bit and their knockoff Playskool logo.

That about sums it up for me. I don't go after them very often but I do love me some vintage cardbacks! The Joe ones and Super Powers are especially cool just for the art, where as the Mattel ones (He-Man, and Secret Wars) are fairly generic on the front. Thundercats were like that too.

Here's most of my cardback collection. All but a handful are from a buddy of mine who had them since childhood. I can never get over how cheap the pricetags on some of these are. It definitely makes for excessive time machine fantasies.

Oh, yeah. I forgot about the Funskool Zartan. I've got a huge box full of old GI Joe cardbacks, as well. Most don't look as good as yours. The art and basic, classic style of those Joe and, to a lesser extent, Super Powers cardbacks are really great. I never really collected the Star Wars guys, so I don't think I have any of those.

--edit: after googling it, though, I'm not sure I would say those cardbacks look exactly the same :lol --

Whats funny is I have a few of the modern Vintage-style SW cardbacks that I've carefully cut the bubble from to preserve the "art", but they just don't see to b as cool as the bet/creased originals w/ their bubbles long since torn away (albeit w/ half the picture).

Wow that's really bizarre. I thought for sure it was a lot closer, especially the GI Joe logo. The art doesn't look as good either. Haven't seen the thing in years though. :slap

Yeah, I collected the 25th Anniversary Joes, and kept many on the card to keep that vintage feel and to have a semblance of the vintage art (even though they were slightly modified). But it never really worked for me because they were missing. . .something.

And that Funskool art looks like someone had a bad acid trip or fever dream about Zartan :lol

That art, or at least the better looking version, is actually from the '84 catalog fold-out. I wonder if Z was originally intended for a single card release at some point w/ the Swamp Skier sold separate like the C.L.A.W. or Trubble Bubble.

There were a few 25th modifications that I really hated just for the quality. I seem to recall something involving Flint's pants and the shotgun that looked like a poor PS job at best. I think they gave v2 Snake Eyes boots too.

That look on his face is priceless.

I don't know about the Tri-logo Star Wars guys, but Hasbro sold various Joe molds to Indian company Funskool back in the 1990s. Some of those figures are pretty close to the original counterparts, some aren't. Funskool gave some figures trippy color schemes.

Not quite vintage but it got me thinking about my Funskool Lightning Strike Batman... he comes with a free JOE:
