Re: Paramount to also back Blu Ray

Actually, it won't. It's already been announced that all it will have as far as Extras is a Trailer.

And I think it IS a big deal. There is more than enough bonus material to put on there. And just what's the point of boasting a 50GB disc when you often release them barebones for $30-40?? They are not at all utiziling all of that storage for the movie. There is no excuse to release a movie like this barebones at that price.

This is one of my biggest gripes about Blu-Ray so far. It harkens me back to the days of laserdisc with its pricing and how some studios (especially Fox) approach it. And that's not necessarily a good thing.

The extras are unannounced as of Jan. 9th...

In an early announce to retailers, Fox has set an April Blu-ray debut for the Arnold Schwarzenegger classic 'Predator.'

One of the "monster" franchises of the '80s (along with the 'Alien' series), the original 'Predator' has long been on the wishlish of early adopters for high-def release. Now Fox has heeded the call to hunt, setting an April 15 street date for the Blu-ray.

With a full press announcement still due in the coming days, there are no supplemental details yet available, but we'll keep you posted.

Tech specs are set to include 1080p video and audio flavors in DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround and Dolby Digital 4.0 Surround, plus a French Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo dub.

Retail for the Blu-ray is $39.98.

You'll find disc details for 'Predator' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, indexed under April 15, 2008.

Dbox is incredible....but, it cost a LOT of money.

Think of it as a Buttkicker but true platform movements to feel the effects.

$10k for a nice set up.

Predator on BD is a must have!

I don't know Gruson. I hate going to movies because there is always some turd kicking the back of my seat. I don't think I want to pay a computer to do it for me. :lol

A bitter pill indeed.

I think the real evil in all of this is Fox, though. They stuck with BD all along solely because of its region-coding and because they weren't forced to a higher standard of added value material and online content. A-holes.

Sony, you *****!

https://gizmodo.com/344680/the-real-reason-warner-went-blu+ray

Now I know my hatred of Sony is not misplaced. Also realize that the amount they paid is probably more than was made last year with both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray combined.
Sony cares not about making money on BR they want to win at all costs. Look at what they are losing in the gaming division trying to get BR in the PS3 so they can put a BR player in many more houses. Sony estimates that the gaming division will have loses around 100 billion Yen or around $876 million.

Wow, that really sucks. To think how close HD DVD was to getting Fox and WB exclusively and losing out to Sony's bigger checkbook.

Who really knows what happened, we can all speculate as much as we want about who paid what to who and when, its not like Toshiba and Microsoft are light weights in the money field, heck Microsoft dwarfs all those companies in available cash reserves. Companies are going to go where the money is, its in their best intrest to, they have stockholders to answer to as well. There were rumors of a Paramount payoff, now a Warners payoff, etc...its all the same crap over and over, untill you get a unified format for the average consumer its not gonna matter who has what.

Retailers don't want to have to deal with 2 sets of DVD's much less three (dvd, HDdvd, blueray) much less two types of players then having to train their employees on what to tell the customer. Retailers themselves make little money off the disc's, its a price point to bring customers in to buy the high ticket items.

As long as we have one format that works thats what we should all care about, the issues people have with Sony/Microsoft are one half dozen and another.

Least thats how I feel...

Fox has said time and time again they don't expect consumers to double dip with "Special Edition" DVD sets to Blue Ray, I don't know what their reasons are but they are at least consistant.

Other than Fox, the majority of Blue Rays are not region coded, it certainly is important to FOX, but most of the other movie studio's don't seem to mind.
