tRUE!!! Did you guys saw that HD-DVD puled theyre both from the show!! :rock:rock:rock:rock:rock:rock

Well, wars not over yet. Those rumors about partamount turned out to be false.I was watching Attack of the Show on the G4 channel the other day when it was announced. So those of you who are invested into the HD-DVD format, you can hold on to your players a little bit longer.

Did they really take down their booth today while the show is still going on?

Link?

The question is as follows, if Blu-Ray wins this HD war will the companies who put their their films in HD-DVD resolicit those films in Blu-Ray immediately?

I read that blu-ray still doesn't have the picture in picture capability HD-DVD currently does and to get it will require new hardware. You people who are hoping for the war to end so blu-ray can be champion should be careful what you wish for. Do you really want Sony solely in charge of high def dvd releases?

Cool, so the rumor that new hardware is going to be required is bogus? Good! Well HD-DVD you were good while you lasted. LOL. I still picked up Serenity and Van Helsing for my HDDVD player. Don't want it to feel unwanted. :lol

If you have the older 1.0 players then you'd have to get a new player for the new profiles-unless they can download some kind of update like the PS3. But HD-DVD still had all of those features since it was first released.

The new 1.1 profile has the PIP ability like HD-DVD already had, but they're still waiting on features that will be in the 2.0 profile, maybe some online thing, I'm not really sure. Which is why the PS3 is a good player choice since it can update for the new profiles while some older players can't.

I got the movie "Sunshine" as part of my 5 free movies with my player and watched the PIP features. They were pretty interesting. But yeah PS3 is the way to go to get the latest updates. I just bought the BD30K since it is already Profile 1.1

Exactly right. The first two generations of Blu-ray players (other than the PS3) are not compatible with Profile 1.1 (also know as Final Standard Profile, in case you see that mentioned in marketing blurbs). The spec for that profile was not finalized until sometime in the summer of last year, and it was not made mandatory until player models that were released on or after October 31 of last year (older 1.0 models can still be sold, but I wouldn't expect them to be for too long). Profile 1.1 is a huge change to 1.0, adding in the PiP features, additional interactive capabilities, more local storage (256 MB minimum), and some new audio and video codecs. In order for an older player to be upgradeable to 1.1, it will have to meet the storage space requirement. And to be honest, I don't know how many (if any) do.

Profile 2.0 (also known as BD Live) takes 1.1 and bumps the local storage to 1 GB, and requires Internet connectivity (and Ethernet port and necessary software to access web sites). The PS3 already meets all of the 2.0 hardware requirements, but the firmware hasn't been upgraded yet to make the features available to the Blu-ray player side of the console. That is supposed to be coming very soon.

anyone notice any news of the porn industry going blu also? I hear they are backing HD DVD big time!....Sony doesnt want any porn related material burned on a blu disk...but that will change with the right amount of money....They played a major role in the VHS/betamax war

I heard Ron Jeremy talk about this on Tom Leykis last year and while it's true that porn decided the VHS/Betamax war, today, because of digital downloads on the internet, porn is leaving the physical market just as it left the theatrical market awhile back.

That said, while SONY is playing the prude on store shelves, their PS3 has no problem playing DiVX and WMA digital downloads of any subject matter.
