Was ANH Leia the victim of a bad paint job?

Same thing that jumps out to me. The eyes are just too damn big and it ruins the whole sculpt.

Josh, it's time to let go of SS's nut sack

Daaaaaamn!! A bad day to be

i think the board needs to have interchangeable subject titles because the bodies seem to say the same thing about the hu-man sculpts looking like crap.

medicom and hot toys are ****** slapping sideshow in this department. with all the great work sideshow does with non-human sculpts, why bother with attempting and failing time and time again?

except for old obi-wan, can we have a sound off of decent looking hu-man sculpts from sideshow? 1/6 scale.

I'd like to hear from the people who were at CIV and saw this 1/6 in the plastic flesh... What were your thoughts of the proto that you saw?

ROTS Obi Wan, ROTJ Luke (People may not like the expression but its dead on), Qui Gon, Darth Maul (He may have horns but its a human portrait), and the original Mace sculpt before LFL demanded changes. Then if you look at SSC's other lines, the highlander figures are near perfect, as are several from the Buffy line.

I beg to differ. Overall I'd say SS has had more hits than misses in the human likenesses, while HT and Medi have been pretty hit-and-miss themselves.

The PF Leia was great, and the 12" is only one step removed from that. I like it.

Say, this is the second duplication of PF and 12". Wonder if Farmboy Luke and ANH Han are far away?

PF and 12":

Darth Maul
Leia
Obi-Wan

Still waiting to hear from someone who got up and close and personal (through the plexiglass?) with this sculpt.

Take off those rose-colored glasses. Your perception is fallible.

Let's step away from the generalizations and look at the facts of this thread. The question was, is Leia under the paint. Based on the responses given so far...

The sculpt is there / it's ok / like it - 12 board members
The sculpt isn't there / dislike it - 13 board members
Undecided / no real answer - 5 board members

So how is it that only Josh is "looking through the rose-colored glasses" and everyone else sees a bad sculpt. Looks pretty evenly split to me...

It looks good to me. It just does. I don't have a problem with this so why should I admit to something I don't see. It has nothing to do with being on SS nut sack as you or some of the other fine adults seem to think. Again, I like what I see and think it looks pretty close to the picture. Others don't but that doesn't make them right or wrong. This is just my opinion and I don't have to agree with you or anyone else to be right or wrong. That's the beauty of having an opinion.

I don't get why it makes me such a horrible, stupid, ignorant, whatever person because I like what I see. Despite what Kit says I've mentioned plenty of flaws with products. Can I still praise them? Yeah, I can. A product can still have flaws and be praised for other aspects or just because despite the flaws you like it.

its just the hair IMO.
I also think some people get a little spoiled wanting 1:4 accuracy with 1:6 sculpts.
The smaller you get the tougher it is to accuratly capture features / detail.

I think you've hit the nail on the head! That looks almost like the 1/4 scale once you enlarged the hair.

The face is too long. When I first saw this I thought......drag queen posing as Leia. I still haven't decided on this one yet. I would like to see it first hand without buying it first.

If the hair was like that (and the head was smaller) the figure would almost be great.

Yep see that's exactly what's wrong with the sculpt, the crown of the head needed to be larger in proportion to her face.
If you subtract the thickness of the hair, the eye level line falls right in the middle of the head usually on almost all people including Carry Fisher. The sculpt's proportions are a little off and the eye level line falls too far above the middle of the head.

I've been saying it all along, Sideshow needs to fix the hair and make the head smaller and the sculpt would be perfect.

Since I've realized that Sideshow is hit or miss I know I'll have a very incomplete collection. But at least the ones I do purchase will go together because they all look good. I can't have like a pretty good Jedi Luke, hopefully a really nice Ben Kenobi, and then this Leia that doesn't cut it.

Drag queen was your first thought? Right.

Sculpt it off, but not Yavin Luke off. Bigger buns help.

Larger buns isn't the only issue, it's also the area of the head the hair covers that's also too small. What Occulum did was enlarge all the area of the hair, buns included. That reduced the size of the face in relation to the rest of the head.
