The lack of hate really made the Mars scene feel out of place. I mean, had they built up the hate, it would've worked...because that was decent acting from Malin...but as it stands, its the biggest piece of overacting of all time...:lol

Yes, agreed 110%

I can be reasoned into thinking Malin Akerman is more than sex in a latex costume, but that revelatory scene with her and Doc M on Mars did NOT help. It reminded me of this:

That's how awkward Laurie's reaction sounded to me. Well, almost. Nothing beats Vader in need of a tissue.

I'm not sure I understand the complaints of this movie. I was a teen when the graphic novel came out, and I feel the film is a good representation of the book. I also don't think the film missed the subtle nuances of the book. Maybe being born at the tail-end of Vietnam and coming of age during a time when nuclear holocaust seemed like a real possibilty gave me a different perspective of the era and the book. Or perhaps I've just reached an age where I'm no longer concerned with being a film snob and would rather just go in, sit down, and enjoy myself for a couple of hours. That's what I did today, went out and enjoyed a movie.

You know what, now that I've thought about it, does Malin Akerman appear nude in every movie she stars in? I've only seen her in 3 films total, and she has shown some copious amounts of flesh in each.

Harold and Kumar Go to Whitecastle
Heartbreak Kid
Watchmen

Can't keep her clothes on. Not that I'm complaining, but still.

she doesn't take koff her clothes in 27 dresses

and

What?! Titanic-era Winslet was something special. I was younger then, I appreciated it a lot more. :lol

so true, so true :lecture

Bendis saw watchmen...
Bendis saw watchmen...

its not the disaster the trades are making it out to be, but it is a fascinating failure.

it has some truly great parts to it. all the rorshach and niteowl stuff, moloch... it's all great.

but when it slavishly holds to the book it falls flat on it's ass. humorless, flat, passionateless. when it decides to be a movie, it sings.

but it is the victim of some truly bad choices made in pre production. as seen on the movie posters and trailers, dr. manhattan does not work. it looks like a rejected character from soul caliber circa ps2. it's a distractingly bad effect that hurts what looks like a pretty great turn by billy crudup.

same with some of the costumes, or at least how they were lit. every ten minutes or so it veers into sci fi channel original programming bad. only to be saved a few minutes later by some visual kick assery.

i was not bored. not even for a second. but as we walked out of the movie the words: too long, too long, too long echoes through the theatre. i didn't care. it only points out that the movie shouldn't have been a movie, maybe a longer mini series.

maybe the director should have gone with his first instinct and not even bothered.

like chinatown 2 and godfather 3, this movie was inevitable. none of those movies are bad btw, just judged by thier weakest parts.

alan moore's name is not to be found, and that is truth in advertising.

at least we'll get an end ot the alan moore: i don't read comics or go see movies because i know they all suck interviews. they make me feel bad for him.

i will now take these lessons and apply them to the powers pilot.

i'm not dc bashing, loved dark knight.

Is it just me, or does anyone else find it funny that a writer would not use capitalization and proper punctuation? Did he text this crap during the movie?

I have to disagree with you about Laurie being a sex-crazed murderer. murderer, maybe, but why sex-crazed? Her sexual habits weren't altered from the graphic novel. They were a bit more graphic, but hey, it's an R rating, go nuts.

It was when I read the graphic novel for the first time that I gained the impression of Laurie as an extremely physical individual. Throughout the story she has three sex scenes (well, if you count all the naked foreplay with Dan), prods with sexual innuendo, and clearly becomes aroused by fighting alongside Dan. Laurie is a sexual being, it's the movie that makes that sexuality more vivid and a bit vulgar with phrases such as "pity-^^^^". She's her father's daughter; sexuality is important to them. She wasn't a murderer in the GN either, but since Snyder was helming an r-rated superhero film, they thought that made her "cool". In the GN her sensual nature isn't as blessedly overwhelming as in the film, but in the GN she isn't a murderer at all. The closest she gets is when she attempts to shoot Adrien, which is arguably more just than to just start dispatching random thugs at whim. There's a lot of sexual physicality in the GN, but it's more subtle without delving into anything too graphic. It's all there, just more drawn out in the movie. None of these are bad things.:monkey5 :drool

No...seeing his blue wang in the movie was disturbing...

Seeing him staring at a kid when he probably has his blue wang hanging out takes the cake. :lol

Yea, that was part of what made it so easy for me to glance over that those were Bendis' comments. The way in which he reviews the movie seems like something a teenager would type into an IM window to his/her friend. That, and I just plain don't get much what he considered weaknesses of the film; plus, I've never even heard anyone say "passionateless"... "passionless" yes, but not "passionateless". It would seem BMB is a student of spellcheck.

In terms of humor, the whole love-making scene, while hot as hell, was intended to be humorous, and numerous other scenes were laden with humor, albeit often subtle. In terms of passion, I didn't find there a derth of this in any way. Care to elaborate and be a touch more specific? The film certainly didn't contain the philosophical depth of his comic origins, and often was laughably violent, but passionless is an interesting comment. Just want to see what you mean here.

Probably, as the "flame thrower climax" appears in the novel too.

Saw it again last nite. Still thoroughly enjoyed it.

Absolutely hilarious.

Saw it for the first time Friday! Thought it was a little long, but it kinda needed to be in order to capture the feel of the book. The ending was sooo much better then the book. Or should I say the underlying conspiracy was much better then the book! It makes soo much more sense and actually USES Dr. Manhatten. Looking back, the Manhatten character was pretty useless and needless in the book.

Okay, saw it last night... still processing, but *overall* I can confidently say that I really did not like it.

2 out of 5

I'm just wondering . . do you plan on seeing it again ? Like on DVD for the extended version or are you done with the movie ?

This is from the Guardian in the UK
Zack Snyder's Watchmen duly leapt to the top of the US box office this weekend, after a strategic retreat by the competition left the superhero movie with a clear run to the top.

The big-budget adaptation of the Alan Moore graphic novel took $55.7m (£40m) from Friday night onwards, the highest opening of the year so far and the third highest March opening of all time.

The figure is still thought to have disappointed bosses at Warner Bros, however, who had hoped that Watchmen would fare even better than Snyder's directorial debut 300, another graphic novel adaptation, which debuted with $70m on the way to taking more than $200m in the US alone. One reason posited for the lower income is Watchmen's running time. At two hours and 40 minutes, it meant that cinemas were unable to schedule as many showings as they might have wished.

Internationally, Watchmen also fared well enough, bringing in another $27.5m. It is almost certain to top the UK box office when figures are announced later this week.

Despite its R rating and its niche subject matter, other distributors were careful not to put their movies up against Watchmen; as a result no other film made its debut in the top 10 this week.

The rest of the US top five were, in descending order, comedy Madea Goes to Jail, with $8.8m in its third week, thriller Taken, which continues to perform well with $7.45m in its sixth, Danny Boyle's Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire, with another $6.9m in its 17th week of release, and another comedy, Paul Blart: Mall Cop, which took $4.2m in its eighth week.

I take it you don't agree? :lol

:lol
Yeah, but I am enjoying reading all the reactions. It's interesting how it's hitting people on so many different levels and what different people, depending on their familiarity/opinion of the book, are making of it.
Plus I think your screen name is hilarious and I would never presume to tell someone what to make of Dr. Manhattan.:D

Thought is was a really good movie as I know none of the backstory or read the book. The story was great, the special effects were killer and the acting was pretty good.

My only complaint was the crappy makeup on a few of the characters (lots of sickly looking yellow skintones??) and not enough naked Malin. Never enough naked Malin!!
