Because, in the real world these people would be complete and utter sociopaths and unable to function normally in society. If Batman was real, Bruce Wayne would be a complete and total mess and ready to meltdown at any given moment.

:lecture This is why Ichi the Killer is the best Batman story ever told.

I'm really excited for this movie. I wish they hadn't changed some of the costumes though, and did I hear somewhere that they changed the ending?

Uh....:lol

I think he ment the movie Ichi The Killer, is probably what a realistic Batman film would be like.

Yup. Batman is not someone you would want to be. Ichi/Batman is mentally fractured and fighting for control of his rage and depression. He's a wild animal and barely human anymore. And the Joker character is even sicker than Ledger's version, though he doesn't have as much charisma. The film is so nuts and makes the Dark Knight look like a saturday morning cartoon.

Watchmen treads some of the same ground, showing what psychological scars a costumed vigilante would really have.

Something a little silly (but fun) I made for all of my fellow WATCHMEN fans:

Also, I'll have a neat announcement to share around the New Year with you guys. Nothing big or earth-shattering, but cool nonetheless. :)

The tagline! :lol

Everything else is great though. A better tagline would be....WATCH out this Christmas.

Or is it worse.....:rotfl.

Finished the graphic novel for the first time yesterday, and got caught up with this thread today. Consider me pumped for the movie. :rock

But I have to ask...Will this movie really be popular with the general public? I hope it will, but for some reason I doubt it...

Yes and no. It will get more people to buy the novel for sure...but....i'm not sure about non comic fans....

Went to the IMAX today to watch "Day the Earth Stood Still", and saw this trailer again. It was the only exciting thing about the "Day the Earth Stood Still", I must admit. I'm pumped for Watchmen!!!:rock

I tend to doubt it too. I think you really have to be a big comic head, understand the history of comics and have an appreciation for them to really see the brilliance in this story. Although I did give a synopsis of it to my boss, who generally appreciates comic book movies, and see thought it sounded awesome.

Nah, I don't think you have to have read or even like comics to appreciate Watchmen, esp if the movie is done well. But the story is so strange, violent, (rated R automatically cuts your audience) and anti-establishment that it will be off putting to many.

Very cool, Irish. :duff

Or..how about...

This Christmas...you better WATCH out.

LULZ.

Yeah, I like the play off of Santa Claus is coming to Town.

You better WATCH out...
You better not cry...

Hrmn. If I have to guess, the casual crowd will like it for the story and probably the moral implications too, similiar to TDK. Then there will be the comic fans who will pick up on the deeper stuff.

And a friend of mine got me all the motion comics released so far; bloody excellent stuff. :rock And I always thought that all motion comics were crap and wastes of time! :lol Shame they didn't get someone else to do the female voices, though I barely notice it now.

This is near genius:

Little behind in this thread, but that was hilarious.

As for the character banners, doesn't
ozy's banner
really spoil the end for people who havne't read it?
