Conclusion: They are all in scale and my collection is due a dusting!

I don't think there is much concern about the SSW stuff being in scale with the SSW stuff. Those statues and steeds were all done under the same 'license' by the same team of sculptors, etc.

I think the majority of the concern NOW is if the NEW Weta stuff will be comparable in size/scale to the old SSW stuff...and even more of a concern, will the NEW Weta stuff be in scale with the SS Collectibles maquettes.

Has anyone done the measurements of the SS Strider Maquette and compared it to a SSW Aragorn statue/figure?

How does the new Azog on Warg compare to the Old Gothmog on Warg??

If the photo of the SSW GTG and the Weta Hobbit GTG are any indication there may be a slight difference, but nothing anyone should get too worried about. Most of us group our items together anyways so they'd likely be on the same shelf as others just like them. That makes the tiny difference moot really.

Azog's Dimensions from his product page:
17.7" x 25.6" x 16.1" (H x W x D)
45 cm x 65 cm x 41 cm
Weight:
29.4 lbs (13.4 kg)

Gothmog:

Product Size:
15" H (381mm)*

It does have full box dimensions so you can get a rough idea without having to measure the statue.

Box Size:
24.00" H (609.6mm) x 13.00" W (330.2mm) x 15.00" L (381mm)*

That's all it has on his product page.

Pretty sure someone did in the past, even putting the SS Strider on a SSW black base, scale is pretty much the same.

How does the new Azog on Warg compare to the Old Gothmog on Warg??

Again, I fully expect the scale to be basically the same, just that Azog and his Warg are bigger full size compared to Gothmog and Warg.

As for new vs old Weta, I fully expect it all to pretty much fit in and together just fine. Minor differences aside, it's all going to be more or less 1/6th scale.

Gomoth never was at 1:6 scale (it was near, but not that scale)...Azog is 1:6 scale
I've Gomoth and I can compare it with all the other statues...is a big one, but if you take only Gomoth, you can see that's little than the other statues

Scale is a moot point if they are being sold as 1/6 scale. Wether by SS or WETA, new or old, they will all blend in. If there is a difference in height, check for Cuban heels :lecture

That's how I feel. Everything I have looks good together in one room and scale is never something I think about when looking at my stuff.

hate to say it but the old one looks better. i think it originally sold for around $100 retail.

We have a second hand dump site here in the netherlands.
All this Weta stuff is very cheap for action now.
People wanna get rid of it.
The new Hobbit line and other lines like sideshow maquettes that's coming closer to likenes.
I never had Weta, except the ringwraight on steed.
The wraight is a little smaller than the maquette wraight, but when they are appart you wouldn't notice.

The SS maquettes are the only reason I started LOTR.
Now I added the GG bustes.
Maybe when I have a nice deal I go for the Thor,Balin,Dwalin weta.
Depence what me retailer can offer me.
They have bought to much, and now every fan allready has them, they don't sell very well.
No limited edition right?

I will put the link down.
Maybe you see anything you like.
Be aware prices are in euro's.
Your old gandalf is on it for 50€ that's $66

A handful of pieces had a poor likeness, but most of the stuff was creatures. You can't tell me they had a bad likeness, being sculpted by the people who made them for the film.
The people who want to 'get rid of it' are probably the people who have to have the most up-to-date, latest offerings, without realizing the value of the original statues.

I agree, a run of old SSW orcs/baddies looks great IMO. Human likenesses are always iffy. heck the SS Star Wars PFs need revisiting in my opinion as the Han and Luke just seem weak now in comparison.

Yeah, the creature stuff was always on point. Some of the humans weren't quite that way but most of that line was pretty darn great.

If you're nuts, I'm nuts with you because I think the miniature Gandalf is the best to date :lecture

A bunch of mainly adults spending hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on items that will be either put on a private display or kept in a box that has a curiosity factor for the majority of thier friends and relatives. :lecture

Yep....we are all completely nuts. But we are happy in our own little world :dance

There you go Geb, the SS maquette is quite a bit bigger that the original SSW version.

Actually...height isn't what I'm looking at...feet and hands are the tell tale...SS is much larger.
