I know I have no display space for Smaug, but I ordered him anyway. Easier to do that than wait until I have more space in a few years only to find he has risen in value.

Holy wow, this sold out waaaay faster than I expected (first batch lol). Might have to pick this up earlier than I wanted to

Sent from the Cockpit of the Millenium Falcon

So the first batch is sold out? Do they only produce them in two batches?

They did. We don't know to be honest. At least two most likely depending on how many are in a batch.

It did sell out faster than I thought it would for sure.

Interesting.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting this to sell so quickly with a 2000 ES and $700 price tag.

I was going to try and pick him up, but only after the new Balrog and a handful of other ME collectibles. Guess I'll be missing this one.

Really hoping Weta shows off an armored Legolas and Thranduil sometime. Besides Smaug, those are the only Hobbit-related collectibles I think I'd want.

It's a little surprising. It is a great piece but that price tag ain't cheap.

I don't recall you being a Middle-earth collector.

We'll see Legolas but I wouldn't expect a new Thranduil for quite some time.

I'll bet the first batch is 250 pieces

I figure 250-300.

Well I didn't start collecting until most of Sideshow's LotR collectibles had been long sold out, and I didn't know Weta existed at the time. I've always been a big LotR fan though.

You think they'll make another Tauriel anytime soon? From what I've seen the 1/6 statue seems to have been pretty popular. Not even sure if she has armor in the next film, but I'd love an armored version of her as well the others.

Armored characters rule. I am so hoping for an armored Elrond from the Last Alliance battle.

With Weta being the only producer of 1/6 LOTR/Hobbit statues rehashing is a possibility, but I wouldn't expect it anytime soon. Especially if Tauriel doesn't get a different garb or armor in BotFA, which judging by the trailers she does not. I imagine we'll see Legolas, Dain, Saruman, Elrond, Galadriel, and other Hobbit characters Weta hasn't tackled yet

I'm hoping for an armored Azog, but seeing as we just got an Azog / Warg statue not to long ago I'm not holding my breath. Same goes for an armored Thranduil.

That would also be awesome. And maybe a generic elf warrior as well.

Good points.

I'd guess we're more likely to get another Thranduil before another Azog as the current Azog on Warg statue is so definitive. I can't imagine another Azog statue being above that in quality/design. Then again Azog is more popular than Thranduil, so idunno.

Got ya. I did not know that. Enjoy collecting Middle-earth.

Maybe someday but not anytime soon. They've still got to finish the Dwarves, we need some generic orcs, elves, Dain, Beorn, etc.

I figure 250-300.

Batches are sold in even numbers to fit evenly the total ES in this case 2000. Unless Weta does something different from a few companies I know it'll be 200,250 or 500, not 300 this time and some different number next. The new film will increase some sales for this too so maybe 750 could be sold IMHO in 2014. That's a lot of $100 deposits they are getting. I'm sure there will be some(only a few) cancellations when the time comes too. I will order this before Jan 25. Still got over 2 months, my first priority is the Beorn house and Balrog preorder with $50 discount. I'm very curious if the NRD is for all the future pieces. Some I will not order till in stock. So far Tauriel is the only cheaper LE that sold out

I'll take your word for it. It's not something I've ever paid attention to. I expect the new film to generate some sales as well. I think 750 sold this early would be a nice start to this piece as far as sales go. That's one option. I'd rather I guess get in early and in this case be in the first batch. I'm looking forward to Beorn's house as well but based on what Megan said this ain't due to go up before Christmas. I'll be curious to see if the pieces she listed will all be in-stock or not. Could be expose sieve quick if so. My Balrog order was in right away and I'm stoked to be getting him soon. That will be interesting to watch going forward. I sort of expect it on really expensive pieces. She is and I hope more follow her because of how wonderful the pieces are.
