Sorry guys if the photo's arent that crisp. My camera functions need to be adjusted. Macro wouldnt let me zoom on the small details. Anyways... This is awesome!! First, I dont see there being a lot of quality control problems with this statue. You would think, because the wings are fragile, that we'll see a ton of breakage. I dont think that will be the case. WETA went above and beyond to package this thing in the styro supremely well. The base is screwed to a peg board that are both separated by the bottom of the styro. There's space for the wings so they dont touch any part of the styro. Actually, none of the statue aside from the base plate touches the styro.
At first when I took it out of the art box and put the styro down, I heard a dinging, bell sound. I didnt know why I was hearing that and hoping it wasnt any damage, and I kinda figured it out when I couldnt pull the statue out, and I found a wrench on the other side of the styro making that noise.
So much detail on this piece to absorb. Paint application is great!! The gold is really really shiny. You can see the scarring on his body and face. His teeth are looking razor sharp. The black scales are black, but they have this bluish shiny hue to them with the way the lighting hits every individual area on them. And its so awesome that they didnt leave out the most important detail, the ***** out of his scale armor is missing. FANtastic!! Such a very impressive statue. Its BIG. Yes, it'd be nice to have this in 1:4 scale. But it would be massive in that scale and would take up a lot of space. This size is just perfect. He's in my besta now. But it sticks out ever so slightly and you cant close the tombo doors. You also cant really rotate him around in there. He's a big boy!
I'm really really happy with him.
I got him on a whim. I didnt even know about this statue until I saw the artist proof on ebay. So I made an offer, off of ebay, and shelled out a little bit more cash for it. Got a fair deal for it too. No where near the $1300 that they were asking for.
And guess what!? It turned out to be from someone from Secret Compass. Its signed on the bottom from a couple of the artists that made this statue as well. It would have been nice if the wings were open in the same direction the wings are positioned currently, but not sticking out from the side, maybe straight up. Not like SSC's DeathWing. That was a pass for me. A space eater. If youre looking for a dragon statue and debating whether to get this or DeathWing, its a no brainer. This is a quality piece. Enjoy the pics guys.
