Re: WGP's "GORDON'S ALIVE???" FLASH GORDON movie interest list

Hey gang,
we had a question about the Flash sword accuracy for all of you.
The actual sword looks like this with a small handle.

flash-gordon.jpg

If we made it like that the figure would have a problem holding it double handed, plus the sword is huge so will be heavy. Ideally we would need to cheat, make the handle a bit longer to be more 1:6 hand friendly for two hands and maybe pop a pommel on the bottom of the handle so the hands won't slip off in the middle of cool poses, which is actually a cheat Bif Bang Pow did with their awesome action figures.

Would that be cool or do we want to go for 100% accurate (which would cause holding problems for certain poses?)

Then I wanted to get comments back on us trying to have a Ming guard done by the time of Flash as well. He'd have something to fight, and when Ming comes out next he'll have soldiers to pose with behind him. I bring this up because the guard is VERY simple clothes wise to make and would re-use Flash's boots and buckle, so although we all may prefer Ming or Vultan instead, this is all about ease to make and getting you another character sooner. Let us know if there is interest then. Thanks!

Re: WGP's "GORDON'S ALIVE???" FLASH GORDON movie interest list- QUESTIONS!

OK, everyone stand back, because I'm about to lay some science down on this one!

First off, the swords actually do have a pommel on them, so it's not a cheat:

Now, as for the handle length, take a look at the photo of Flash holding the sword. Each "rung" of the handle is roughly the width of one of Flash's fingers. Maybe slightly less.

In the image of the sword I've posted, we can see that there's 10 rungs plus the pommel. That means it's definitely a two-hander. IMO, the only reason we can't see the pommel is because of the angle of the photo and the way Sam J. Jones is holding it. I think the meat of his left hand is incidentally cupping the pommel and obscuring it from the camera's view.

So, what I'm basically saying is that I come down on the side of "make it big enough for two hands, and adding a pommel isn't just a good thing to do. It's the correct thing to do."

Have you given any thought towards producing the red, leather jacket to complete Flash's stolen uniform?

I actually really like that costume too, so maybe later on in the line we can make that one after a few different characters if there is interest then? Tailor slots are at a premium and Mings' costume is honestly probably one of the hardest costumes to do nicely so I don't even want to think about it now (laugh).

I am expecting the molded head this week for approval and the costume is actually being sewn now. I recieved the emblem patches on Sat and Sean is sculpting the sword as we speak. :)

Re: WGP's "GORDON'S ALIVE???" FLASH GORDON movie interest list- QUESTIONS!

Even better news, gang. I got the cast of the Flash Gordon head before work and it looks great, meaning the head is ready to order now and should ship within a week!

For people wanting their head now, the price is $55 +$5 (in the US) to
sean.dabbs "at" hotmail.com (spelled out to avoid spam). :)

Re: WGP's "GORDON'S ALIVE???" FLASH GORDON movie interest list- Flash Head now availa

The costume is being worked on now, the patches for the chest emblem has been made, and we may very well see some pics by this weekend of the costume (fingers crossed).

The sword is in the middle of being sculpted, so things ARE moving, amigo. :)
