I love that CD!! Brings back a lot of memories of my last year in college. :)
Right now I'm listening to Allegri's Miserere Mei....one of the most beautiful compositions ever created in my opinion. It's Holy Week for me and I sing in a choir...so this composition really sums up the week for me and gets me in the mood for all our choir performances this week.

Definately agree with you there. Did you know for hundreds fo years it was forbidden by the catholic church to perform this work anywhere but inside the Vatican square. Even the sheet music was forbidden to leave.

This was also a piece which Mozart memorized on one hearing of it and wrote it down when he got home. Naughty boy.

Yep, I'm familiar with the history of the piece. :) Someday I'm going to be at the Vatican during Holy Week and hear this sung by the Sistine Chapel Choir. I have to boast and say the choir that I belong to at St. James Cathedral really does an excellent job in performing it. It always makes me cry when our lead soprano hits those high notes. It's just so beautiful...words do not do it justice.

So funny you are discussing Allegri's Miserere Mei... Today, I really felt like listening Michael Nyman. No, he's got nothing to do with it, just my kind of classical music, that's all.

Queen Of The Night *** Michael Nyman
