Blade 1 is the TWS of the 90's in the action dept. It ushered in the modern realistic cbm before X-Men 1.

Nicholson alone makes Batman 89 perfect.

Add in an incredible costume, Batmobile, Batwing and soundtrack and the rest is history.

Aliens a 10/10 but no Alien.

I prefer the Thing over Alien, but I'm just not a big space guy. I guess that's why I never cared for the space ship aspects of Star Wars, and was always more about the Force and the Jedis. I think Alien is a really good movie though!

In truth, I think ratings are meaningless unless a film-maker is asking critic to grade their work from a technical perspective,

I think Khev's system is the the best system. It shreds away at any elitism, and it's really helpful to get an overall impression of what we thought about a film. Then if you want to know what people liked and what people took issue with, you read their comments. When people get into ratings of 6.8/10 or 9.5/10, I don't understand what people are trying to say—especially without any context.
