Great thread! My gf also appreciates the detail and craftsmanship of the figures I collect, and gets excited at the customizations and repaints I do. Of course it could just be because she loves me and knows i enjoy the hobby. That's what matters right? of course if she ever put her foot down, I could always use the old "It's better than gamblin', boozin' and whorin'!" excuse.

I'm married, therefore I couldn't give a crap what she thinks.

my wife is cool about it, but one of the requirements when we were looking at houses was 2 living rooms so my collection can have a room to it's own.

:rock :rock

We will be looking for a new house soon as well, and I have a similar requirement, the difference being the need for a basement for both the home theatre and the collection.

My wife is from Tokyo, so she is somewhat accustomed to my geeky ways. But as much as I spend on collectibles she easily doubles that with shoes and handbags.

We built a house last year along a similar concept. The media room is mine to decorate how I chose which includes my figures, movie memoribilia, tv, game system etc. The great room is her's to decorate how she chooses.

We both have a set allowance of mad money each month we buy, save or invest how we see fit. A wonderful arrangement which works for us.

My g/f tolerates but doesnt really like my figures, in all honesty it doesnt bother me I pay for them with my money so she doesnt get much of a say. Works both way I dont hassle her when she buys crap lol

...She loves my Jabba, a sign of a keeper if ever there was one!

Is that what the kids are calling it these days? :rotfl

HAHA too true! My wife totally supports it too, probably more because of the point you mention above nikoniko..."it could just be because she loves me and knows i enjoy the hobby." Of course I also know she loves my Iron Man figures, and like's to joke about some other ones....but hey, whenever anyone comes over to the house, they're always in awe of something on the display shelf! :rock

She tolerates it, but she certainly doesn't like it. She does seem to appreciate the craftsmanship of the Hot Toys and Sideshow stuff more than my RAH and 25th GI Joe collections though, that's for sure! I guess they're a lot less like "toys", and I suppose she'd be right.

my g/f loves the fact that i customise and loves my figures!!..she keeps buggin me to make a samurai-dragon slayer-hunter version of her!!...then we get to play dress up.....whoop whoop!!!,she ROCKS!!!

At least collectibles have resale value. You can't say that about shoes and clothes. :lecture

good point.

a girl i used to date once got a pair of shoes by jimmy choo (ask your wife/gf), which she refused to wear. she would just take em out of the box occasionally and show em off to her friends. apparently they were a special edition collectors item and not meant to be worn. i don't know anyone else who'd practice this with shoes.

Maybe she should put 'em in a display cabinet.:D

My wife will always buy an expensive pair that appear to be incredibly uncomfortable. We will go out and she'll wear them for about two hours before they come off. When I point out the irony, she tells me that I know nothing about fashion.

My girl left. She hated my collection and always guilt tripped me on the money I spent on my figures. It was getting to the point where I had to lie about what I paid for them, or even hide them from her. I never did understand why she would get so upset about it, since I not only funded my hobby with my own hard earned cash, but I spent just as much if not more of it on her and crap she wanted.
Guess it's for the best she dumped me. I've been collecting since I was about 5 years old, and don't plan on stopping any time soon. I have made it a requirement of any woman I may be with to accept that. I feel it's a reasonable request, since I don't do anything else, drugs, alcohol, gamble, cheat, etc.

So anyway, I guess my answer to the thread title is N/A.

My girlfriend feels OK with it although she might complains me sometimes about money saving. However, she understands my interest as she's also a long-time barbie collector. Anyway, everytime I buy a new figure I tell her 50% of the real price I pay. :rotfl

Luckily my boyfriend loves my collectibles!

We both collect, and are massive geeks, so it's not really a problem
