City of God is one of the best foreign films I have seen as well......really left me speechless.

Yeah it is amazing to see what those kids really go through. Most news stations don't really report on that area but it is insane how bad it is. There was an article in Maxim about it years ago. They actually beg people to become cops because no one wants too because they are that affraid. I would rather walk the streets of Iran or Iraq than that place. :horror

It is really heartbreaking.....seeing kids having to grow up the way they are is just unimaginable. Just isn't right.

Since we're on the subject, I have to go on a tangent and say Slumdog Millionaire, the recent Oscar sweeper, is overrated. Usually I really hate using that word, but I couldn't think of anything else here.

Oddly, I consider myself a fan of Danny Boyle's work.

forgot maybe my favorite:

Malèna

with the always stunning looking Monica Bellucci
strange nobody has mentioned it here...

I am interested to know if the people on here who have picked movies that have dubbed option watch it that way?
I can't watch dubbed movies. They usually take something away from the movie.
Here are a few more favourites
Kung Fu Hustle
Akira (not dubbed)
Spirited Away (not dubbed)
I don't find subtitles distracting especially once I'm really into the movie

I hate watching movies dubbed.

Oh, need to add a few more:

City of Lost Children
Delicatessen
Nightwatch
- on top of it being a great movie, their use of subtitling was very original and awesome.
