:lol at JAWS for his crusade!

I love Jaws, but I didn't want to make my list so Spielberg-heavy since I already had Raiders and Close Encounters!

Get it on there man!!! ;)

I've got the anniversary Blu-Ray 'book' set - & the 30th anniversary 2DVD set.

Does that bump up my cred? :lol

Close but no Cigar... You got to get it to number 1 ;);)

Alien
Alien 3
Dragonheart

Not sure what else to put there...

Drive, Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (American version), V for Vendetta and Prometheus could all be there. Maybe Predator and Predator 2 as well.

I should get around to watching JAWS one of these days...

I limit it to my most watched and not including Star Wars, LOTR, Predator, Alien/Aliens, Dawn of the Dead or anything with zombies, Star Trek, Universal monster flicks.
:lol
1) Conan the Barbarian
2) Jaws
3) Hot Tub Timemachine
4) Red Dawn (original)
5) 13 Assasins

You haven't seen....my god man. Along with Indiana Jones if my memory isn't mistaken. What about the Back to the Future films? Get on this. Although I'm guessing at this point you can never enjoy them like the rest of us can. That's not a slag, it's just the way it seems to be. My Ex had somehow never seen Jaws before and when I had her watch it with me she didn't know what the big deal was so.....

And now we know why she is an EX:lecture:lecture

Nice pick with Conan! Love this film. Not in my top 5 but in my top 10. Greatest Soundtrack ever!!!

Back to the...what?

Part of the reason I'm reluctant to watch some of these older "classics" is because I fear they'll be overrated as hell and are only loved due to nostalgia. Which I believe to be the case with Robocop, Total Recall, Blade Runner, Conan the Barbarian, Mad Max trilogy and especially Halloween, which I thought was borderline awful...

Indiana Jones, JAWS, every pre-Nolan Batman film, the original Godzilla, etc. Haven't seen any of those but they're on my list.

Just curious.... What is your age... Just surprised to see some of those films you listed as having never seen... Or have you just recently started to enjoy movies..... No insult there... Just amazed that you have never seen any Indy film, JAWS, or older Batman films.

I can honestly say that some of those films you listed have not aged well.... At least not for me. Also some of those films you say you have not seen have not aged well or were never very good to begin with... IMO of course.

Some of the films you listed I actually enjoyed more after I matured... Blade Runner and Halloween. Both of those films I was never in love with but as I got older something clicked one day and I fell in love with Halloween and really enjoy Blade Runner.... I can't agree with you on Robocop either. That is a film I always feel like has not aged well, until I watch it and I am amazed at how well it holds up.

Conan the Barbarian is a Masterpiece of Art Direction (the same guy who did your fav. Alien). The look and feel of the film far outweigh it's issues (which admittedly there are some) but the set pieces like the Mt of Power, the Wheel of Pain, The tower of Set... all had a feeling of realism and really made you believe that it may have been a part of history plus they looked really cool. Conan's War Paint is another example of a great idea brought to reality and Conan Sword is the greatest looking sword ever put on film... Add to the fact the score is amazing and it is yet one more film that I don't see eye to eye with you on.

Total Recall and the Mad Max films have not aged as well and I would even put Arnolds movie into the unwatchable category now.. Mad Max films are the same as they ever were... 1 is OK, 2 is better, 3 is bad.

As far as the films you have not seen.... Watch Raiders and JAWS.... If you can't enjoy them... then you should never return to the movie section of this forum ;) ;) ;)

I don't think any of the Pre Nolan Bat films have aged well.... But I was never in love with them in the first place.

I watched all of these films for the first time within the past year or so. I'd never seen them and had been meaning to for a while. I might need to rewatch them, as usually I don't think a single viewing is enough to accurately gauge the quality of a film. So I might be rating them a bit unfairly. The Mad Max films are the only ones I watched more than once. The first one was actually my favorite, I guess, though I didn't think any of them were that good.

There are bits and pieces of the movies that I really liked, but overall, I felt most of them were average.

From Conan the Barbarian, the score is what stood out to me the most. It was original, it was empowering. Loved it.

The futuristic designs and the themes in Blade Runner appealed to me, everything else? Meh.

In Robocop the only thing I really cared about was his design. It's nice to see a robot design that isn't super sleek and speedy, which is all we see nowadays. And I thought he was just well-designed in general.

Total Recall. The plot twists were fun. Futuristic setting was cool. Hated the cheesiness and anything to do with the mutants.

Halloween... I take back the "borderline awful" comment. I thought it was flat-out terrible. I see people giving it 9/10's and 10/10's and I'm just shocked. :lol

Forgot to add Ghostbusters. Watched it for the first time a few weeks ago and wouldn't rate it any higher than a 6/10. Yeesh. I don't see the overwhelming praise for this movie and the others I've mentioned. There was one joke that made me laugh, and that was the "This man has no ****" line. :dunno

Like I said though, maybe I need to go watch these a few more times to more accurately judge them.

I'm 19, so I didn't really get the opportunity to grow up watching these. I grew up on the Alien and Predator comics and the Kenner figures. Though I never actually sat down and watched the movies all the way through and really paid attention to them until I was about 14-15. When I did, it's like I had a breakthrough. I was amazed at how good they were, and my opinion of their quality hasn't changed much if at all since I first started watching them. I don't think any other 70s or 80s movies come close to the first few Alien and Predator films other than the Star Wars trilogy and Terminator.

I'll try to watch the Indiana Jones series and/or JAWS sometime this week. I just remembered, I actually saw an Indiana Jones movie in theaters. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. :lol That's probably another reason I've been reluctant to watch the series. When I think "Indiana Jones", KotCS comes to mind and I guess I associate it with the rest of the movies in the series - despite not having seen them.

Lar'ja Thwei is very, very beta. All manhood points (and cards) lost.

Though I do agree with him that Blade Runner blows (aside from the visuals). What a weird ass movie with awful pacing. Never understood the love for that one. Still, there are far worse Ridley Scott movies to be found . . . like Brometheus for example. :monkey3

Conan Sword is the greatest looking sword ever put on film...

William Wallace's sword from Braveheart or the Bride's Hattori Hanzo are much cooler. Then there are lightsabers, pretty much the best looking sword, bar none.

Not mentioning film names, but yes, nostalgia does play a massive part in what we consider to be 'classics'. The same applies to modern 'classics' too.

What are you like 15? No way you're into films and haven't seen some of those. You have a fear of seeing films that might be over rated? You crazy man? Nostalgia is important buddy. It's a personal trait and that's what makes it special
