that statement right there is getting really OLD!!!

Ledger was Amazing, everyone knows it, and TDK was a huge success, whether he's gone or not the movie kicked A$$, and yes granted the movie was better with him in it, but thats the whole Damn point!

People went to go see TDK because BB was Great and a second movie was highly anticipated, and then they heard the buzz on how good Ledger really was in the film, they didn't go because he was dead!!

I know a quite few people from work and in my personal life who have no interest in batman and they only saw it because Heath died.

I'm positive TDK would of been a hit no matter what, but I do believe it got the extra hype was due to his death.

Just a thought... what factor bumped this poll into the Marvel section rather than the DC?

I think people who harp on Heath's death are missing the fact that he gave us a stunning portrayal of the Joker. If his acting and the movie sucked his death wouldn't have been a factor. I loved both movies. I must say IMHO TDK is the best comic movie of all time.

I think I would have liked Iron Man a lot better if it wasn't for the villian. I thought that really dumbed down the movie. I still liked both but I gotta give it to the Dark Knight.

I have always been a fan of Batman, so gotta go with TDK. But IM was really good too. RDJ was awesome as Tony Stark.

Loved both IM and TDK, but very different movies.
It's like saying what was better ALIEN or Star Wars (ANH), I love both these movies as well, but find it difficult to compare. Each one has elements I truly love, but it's the chemistry when a cast, story, director and the all important 'zeitgeist' come together that bring the magic. And all four of the films mentioned above managed to capture that elusive magic.

I chose Iron Man. Taking Heath Ledger's death hype out of the equation and looking at both films realistically, Iron Man had a better story and stronger actors in the leads. One really has to wonder if TDK would've been as big a success if Ledger was still with us.

Yes it still would've....

and take RDJ out of Iron Man, and see where that gets you. Because he was the best thing out of that whole movie. Other wise, it would'nt have been all that fantastic. I would'nt have cared about Tony...ect.

Ok, so people only went to go see it because Ledger was dead, not because the Movie was Great, by that logic people should have flocked to go see Soul Men because Bernie Mac is dead

It was a very anticipated movie because of the success of the fist movie, sure Ledgers death added to the Hype but some people here are making it sound like the movie would have been nothing without the tragedy attached and I just don't believe that.

I have to agree TDK was the better/best movie! (I still loved IM) To those that credit Heath Ledger's superb performance for carrying the movie and his death for bringing people to the theater I say...OF COURSE you are right!

On the point of Ledger carrying the movie, yes his portrayal of the Joker did make the movie. However, if the script sucked all of Ledger's acting would have meant nothing, AND he was cast as the Joker for a reason. He didnt just fall from the sky onto the set prompting Nolan to cry out a thank you to God. Its like saying "well the only reason a football team won is because they have the best quarter back that ever lived". You still need someone to catch the ball and block, and it doesnt matter why they won...they still won!

On the point of Ledger passing away, it definately brought people to the theater, but only because it was credited as his greatest acting in a great movie. I assure you if Ledger had lived he would still have been credited for the greatest acting of his career. On the same note, if after his death people claimed the movie sucks and so did Ledger interest would not have been as high!
