You are right on the money there. That's the kind of accountablity that is needed from Americans. I know my Wife and I want to start our family, but we know that money is waaay too tight to even think about it yet. So we are waiting until things are a bit more stable.

I think that one day there will be policy in effect to control population, probably around the world. I don't know if it will be right, but I'm sure it will happen. It needs to happen...

I sincerely hope that one day someone will police and control the population. There are way too many people alive today. I am doing my part- no babies for me- EVER! :emperor

When my ex and I had our second we qualified for WIC, we never took it though because we knew that if we watched our spending we could do it. I'm not as heartless as some of you think. I do believe in programs to help people. Women like this though give the whole system a bad name. Hopefully the kids take their education and do something with it and not continue the cycle.

:clap:clap:clap

Well said bro. People like this really do give the system a bad name. I know that my experience with my parents really lit a fire under me to succeed. I hope these children are filled with the same desire to do so...

I just don't understand a few things about this...

1) Why in the world did she keep going? 10 babies?! Didn't that seem a bit extreme to her and everyone around her?

2) Who the hell is sleeping with this lady and don't they realize what's going on?

3) Condoms? Birth control? Abortion?

There should be a limit on how many children a person can have. Even if they can afford it, it's just not socially responsible to burden the world with so many offspring. It's not like they are dying young like back in the day. Most children grow to be full adults and then continue the stupid behaviors of their parents. :lol

The worst thing about this whole story is that now this lady is going to be rewarded for being an idiot and socially irresponsible. She will probably be given a free home or maybe a free car. People already probably feel sorry for her and give her things all the time but it's her own fault she is in this mess. She should have closed her legs and hung the out of business sign after child number 2...

:lol

Something needs to happen eventually. Our planet is not able to sustain an infinite number of human beings, and our population is growing to insane heights. Eventually we will top out, and level off. All animals have a limiting factor, once their environment cannot sustain them... the numbers slow and birth rates decline. We haven't hit that mark yet for humans, and I don't want to.

Being intelligent humans, we must do what we can to not let that happen. The soil, the animals we feed off of, the seas we fish, all of it... they can't handle much more pressure.

I'd like to know whether she was receiving help before any subsequent children were conceived.

Regarding overpopulation, its happening regardless of whether Americans are contributing or not. Personally, I'd rather America and other countries that share our ideals are the ones populating. Also, I'd rather America become overpopulated by its current inhabitants breeding than people migrating in or coming in by force or by economic need.

I hope to die before it gets too bad. I think people as a group are lost. They are selfish and greedy. Most will take the easy road out when it's to their benefit. The smarter greedier ones feed off of the lazy ignorant ones. We know so much now but we choose to ignore it everyday for one reason or another.

I have no doubt that humans will be the end of their own kind. It's not even that big of a deal. We aren't as important as most seem to think. Humans will have existed for a blink of an eye in comparison to the life of the universe and on.

The thing about people is, we avoid these looming crises until they happen, because we are so myopic and narrowly self-interested. Some say that genetically engineered crops, renewable energy, and our ability to transform "unlivable" places into "livable" habitats will forestall this, but the Indian issue worries me. . .plus, whatever your ideology, China was doing its part in all this with the much maligned "one child" policy, but as western values continue to encroach on them, I wonder where things will go from here. Troubling, the future appears. Time to colonize the moon, and to learn how to eat space dust!

If not for advances in medicine and technology, nature would have "halted" our population growth a long, long time ago. Humans are far exceeding our natural "carrying capacity." Disease and natural selection don't work the way they are "supposed" to.

Many countries like Italy and Japan have a negative population growth, just naturally happening, the limiting factor might be setting in already!

Negative population growth is not necessarily a good thing, especially as people are living longer. Economies need new production, new work forces, etc to fund the welfares, social securities, increase land values, etc that old people require to live safely.

Post-modernism and economic wealth = no need for children. In my (perhaps cynical) opinion, the poor will always outweigh the rich, and the poor make babies. . .for economic reasons if nothing else (this isn't a knock on the poor in the U.S., I mean that the poor need kids to work and to take care of them when they are older and have no savings).

The native U.S. population has been shrinking for a while for this reason, but immigration has kept the "overall" population fairly stable.

Increased efficiency in production is, in some ways, a function of population size, as more people = more innovation and more productivity, but I think the dwindling resources issue outweighs this one.

My parents are going to be out of luck... I am letting their ***** rot away. I can't wait till they ask me for help and then I can look down upon their wrinkly old faces and smile. Let them know that they were horrible people. Then I will step on their weak bones and hope they crumble from within. :lol:rotfl

Maybe I've missed something in the last 20 years, but "hunger" seems to be less of a "issue" as it was in the 80s. Maybe we've just gotten better at ignoring it, but I don't see starving African baby commercials like I used to, etc. Not saying its not happening, just isn't as big an issue as it used to be.

oh they're still starving, now they're just doing it in front of a plasma tv, while watching simpsons reruns on satelite. it just doesn't make for good news media anymore.

besides there's a good foundation that could use everyones help, it's called the Quadcent retirement foundation.
send $$$$ to here :moon

It is still happening, but Sally Struthers can't get in there for fear of being violated and murdered by a gang of "rebels."

Seriously though, international aid has gone up and genetically engineered corn, etc. has helped a lot, but there are parts of every continent where hunger is an issue. A bit off topic, but the ridiculous ethanol subsidization by the U.S. threatens to make this a huge problem in the future.

And yes, cannibalism is always a useful contingency plan.
