There are some great customs out there (including Trevor's amazing Walter White and Iminime's Rick Grimes) but I really wish there was a high quality release of the following figures...

Madmen:
Don Draper
Roger Sterling

Breaking Bad:
Walter White
Jesse
Gus
Mike
Hector Salamanca in his wheelchair

Walking dead:
THE WHOLE CAST!

Seems like a potential goldmine for a small high quality company to get these licenses (i.e. Blitzway or DiD)

I've thought about this, and my best guess is that these shows probably appeal largely to western audiences, and pretty much all of the 1/6 companies are based in Asia, where Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Mad Men etc. might not have the same cultural impact. I can't imagine any other reason (outside of licensing difficulties with amc) why there hasn't at least been a Rick Grimes figure, even from the bootleg companies.

I'd be willing to bet that there's a problem with the rights. I work in a legal department of a "major entertainment company" (I'll give you a hint, it rhymes with "Shmaych Bee Ohh") and I can tell you this ... it's AMAZING how quickly the lawyers can shut down a cool collectible idea if the right t's aren't crossed.

On the other hand, since AMC is relatively new at original programming, they may just not understand at the corporate level that there's an appetite for this kind of thing. In fact, they may be totally unaware that the collectibles market exists. Heck, I was talking to one of the licensing people at my company the other day and they'd never even heard of Sideshow or Hot Toys. I made sure to educate them. :wink1:

Well, I know McFarlane has a line of Walking Dead toys, so obviously AMC is willing to license that property, but I don't know if McF hold a master license for it.

I'd get Rick Grimes and a few others from TWD but that's because 1. The show is great and 2. It's based on an even better comic.

Couldn't care less about those other shows.

Well Walking Dead has the Mcfarlane figures and Madmen did some Barbie dolls so they have to know that the fans are there. Subway figures did some pretty nice unlicensed 24 figures so maybe there's some hope a bootleg company can produce these if not Hot Toys.

Knowing McF he probably has the master license and is just going to sit on it and make the ****ty figures they are making out of it.

Pity.

Even worse NECA didnt go for TWD, because they thought it be too "boring". Yeah. More boring then Twilight or Hunger Games figures? Give me a break!

Would love some goo quality Walking Dead Figures though. Rick, Shane, Daryl....and a whole buncha Zombies!!

I would kill for high end figures of Walt and Jesse. Not customs, though there are some awesome figures made from Trevor's sculpt.

I would love to see some high end collectibles from the likes of AMC, HBO, etc. The Walking Dead, at the very least.

AMC has no problem with licensing their stuff. The only reason 1/6 companies have not done them is because you are not telling them you want them. (not you specifically but you as the whole ie. the community)

The community needs to make it clear that these companies stand to make profit if they produced toys based on these shows, otherwise why would they?

Give someone a reason to make something other than tertiary characters from the Avengers.

Because a ton of people tune in every week to watch the shows? Because McFarlane TWD figures sell like hot cakes and are pure garbage? I don't see how any 1/6th company couldn't see the potential even without fans asking for it. Isn't TWD the highest rated/watched cable tv show with Madmen and BB not too far behind?

I'm hoping the 1/6 manufacturers see this thread!

Breaking Bad figures? Yesss... I'd up for a Walt and Jesse... possibly Gus and Mike too. I've seen some custom of Walt, the sculpts were pretty damn fine.

I'd only get Rick from Walking Dead. Maybe Daryl.

Couldn't care less about those other shows.

:thud: Missing out on the greatest show on television: Breaking Bad. Beyond just show... it's practically mastery in its art.

Hot toys did prison break because for some bizzar reason the show was popular only in Asia. There was a 24 figure... Hmmm... Medicom did a couple lost figures. Other than that I'm not sure why there's not more TV figures.

A lot of the great shows are via HBO and they don't Lisence out by policy.

Yes but those demographics... How much is the 18-30 male prone to buying toys? The more juvenile licenses based around comic books is what does better generally. Shows like mad men reach a broader audience but when it comes to prodicing action figures is it a qualified audience? Not at all.

I have an evening drama that's popular, based on the ad industry in the 60s and a focus on fashion and relationships... I can stand to make money off of the show via merchandise. I can sell dolls, Mattel offers to wrap it into its iconic Barbie line as a collectors set and some obscure company in asia wants to make 200 dollar dolls aimed at a male demographic with a collection of aliens. Hmmm who am I gonna choose? What do I stand to make more of a profit off of? It's not difficult to figure that one out.

The walking dead however I do think that there is potential for capturing profit in this demographic.

Agreed (begrudgingly) on the madmen slant. However TWD is ripe for action figure goodness!! Sheriff uniform Rick, season 3 rick, season 2 shane, zombie shane, glenn, daryl, Merle, michonne And her pets, the governor, Carl sooo many figure opportunities.

That's not actually true. They do merchandise licenses all the time. Just not for the kinds of stuff we collect. (Apparently slot machines are a big winner. Who knew?) But many times they're constrained by legal issues. For shows like The Sopranos and Sex and the City, for instance, the lead actors famously had the contractual right to nix anything bearing their likenesses. And they exercised that right. Often.

With Game of Thrones, George RR Martin has existing deals with licensees, which I expect would tend to limit what HBO can do. But hopefully that one gets worked out, because I would very much like some Game of Thrones figures and statues! (Or at least some better statues than the ones Dark Horse/Gentle Giant are doing.) And replica swords would be fantastic, too!

The thing is, these kinds of cable networks may not be aware of our particular brand of fandom. They don't have as much experience with it as the movie studios. I say go to their websites and pepper them with e-mails. If enough people do it, they'll start to get the idea that there are dollars to be made.

Out of the millions of people that tune into most of those shows, I am sure not even 1% would buy high end action figures. This board is very much the minority.
