fron wikipedia:
Playboy Collectors' Figures are a series of dolls modeled after popular Playboy Playmates. Generally known as Playboy Dolls, the first doll was launched at the International Toy Fair in New York in 2002. The dolls are 16 inches tall, dwarfing G.I. Joe dolls by 4 inches. Initial dolls in the series are:

Victoria Silvstedt
Karen McDougal
Dalene Kurtis
Ava Fabian
Marilyn Monroe

The original concept was to release them as limited production run dolls for collectors every year after initial launch. The dolls boasted features such as soft plastic skin, joint articulation for realistic movement, and "anatomically correct" modelling. Wax casting of the face, hands, and certain other body parts was used to model those areas. Sculptors worked very closely with the Playmates throughout the process. For some of the latter dolls, computer scans of the Playmate's body was used.

The clothing for the dolls was usually modelled after the clothing used in the Playmate's pictorial or, in the case of Marilyn Monroe, a timeless classic costume associated with the subject.

They dolls are designed and manufactured by the Stronghold Group with assistance from Living Toyz and Evil Genius Toys

Isn't there already plenty of sexy women to buy in PF or statues?

She Hulk that went up today for example?

The problem with this idea is very few sculptors could actually pull this off. Realistic female anatomy is tricky and female portraits even more so. There were some 18 inch dolls put out some years ago of Playboy models that were not that great. Statues would be the way to go, if someone did it. The premium format would be a wise choice as the figure could be displayed with or without the clothing. There was a statue released a few years ago of the porn star Seka that was done this way. Statue was nicely done and pretty limited. The fact that no new statues ever came out may speak to the lack of market potential?

Thanks for your reply dude. Good information there but I feel the very proof they were not sold and never came out again means that they must not be quality products. They must have lacked the finishing touch and realistic resemblance.

No, if it wasn't based on a character (Marvel, DC, etc.) or celebrity (Betty Page, Marilyn Monroe, etc) I would think the guy is totally weird or perverted for having a half naked premium format statue. lol

Just my opinion though! ;)

Thank you for your reply and I respect it is your opinion. But please do not say or accuse anyone of being pervert. Please read the post by Star Puffs on page 2 of this thread and read my reply to her on the same page. We do not want any arguments going bad and resulting in a mess. :)

I'd buy a classic Playboy Marilyn Monroe and a Playboy Bunny girl like in the picture below.

As long as they are not totally nude my girlfriend doesn't mind. She tolerates the BQ & Emma Frost comiquettes, somthing like this won't bother her. :D

:D:D:D I know you can't just keep a collection of fully nude playmates right in front of your girlfriends eyes all day long.

Good info dude. But as I mentioned before the reason they might have not sold would be the lack of realistic finish to them. Lookin at this photo you posted it just looks like a barbie doll and not like a collectible statue.

its just that pieces like this only represent sex appeal. The ony reason they are significant is because they take their clothes off. I know Monroe is a little different, but most of the woman are forgettable and a lot of them have fake bodies. They dont represent anything significant, so why would anyone pay $300 for a piece like that?

I'd totally buy a realistic life size version of Sara Jean Underwood... you know, as a collectible of course with no perverted intentions whatsoever.

Rightly said but don't you think it is more sort of a negative mind set? I mean what is wrong with sex and why should it be considered a taboo? On the other hand fake bodies are not so appealing but there are models blessed with natural bods too.

I don't think people buy figures for the actual people themselves, they buy them for the characters they play. In the case of Playmates, they are beautiful and could be considered celebrities, but there's really no "mass market" context for them being an action figure or other mixed media format. While you could say that these being "adult oriented" figures is one hurdle to overcome, it's also the fact that most people don't care to buy toys based off the celebrities themselves. You don't see successful Brad Pitt or Robert Downey Jr. figures unless they are tied into the characters they play in movies. Brad Pitt by himself is rather boring, his good looks notwithstanding. One thing Playboy has had to learn over the years of trying to diversify their product and brand is that the guys (and gals) who read playboy are merely content to look at beautiful women without clothes and that's about the end of it.

I do agree though that the whole sexism/mysogny/etc arguments are separate from what you are specifically threadding about.

Well said bro. But my point here is since there are similar figurines that have been made in the past and have not got such a good response is because they were made with the intention to be adult figurines. You could even remove their clothes and bare them. So it never made any artistic appeal. Also it lacked quality and realism. If you compare marvel super women figurines, they do have bulging cleavages and well toned derrieres. But in this case the adult theme smartly hides behind the character.

I have the Victoria Silvstedt & Karen McDougal dolls.
After they came out the others got too pricey.

Currently . . . there is only one company that I know of . . . that could pull off producing Playboy Playmate figures . . . not necessarily a premium format size, but in 1:6 . . . but it's cost prohibitive from a licensing, marketing, and production standpoint.

i think the problem is that none of these figures have been done well. if hot toys released some playmate figures in pf or even in 12 inch i'd buy the crap out of them. i might not display it as a playboy figure, but i'd arm her to the teeth or swap out some of my sideshow figures, or even get a custom commission for a wonder woman outfit in pf format. think of all the possibilities. you might not collect it and it's cool, but not all people who collect or buy these figures may use them as playboy figures straight on the shelf. i just think theres a lot of possibilities if it was done nicely. unfortunately, not very many companies (if any) could do female figures nicely

Which company?

Exactly. No company has been able to pull this properly. The end product looks very barbie like and just doesn't give it the collectors value to it. As far the concept of having a well made body and face along with accessories and clothing, will just be like a barbie concept but in a premium format.
