Re: Why no love from Hot Toys for Rogue One Krennic, Cassian and Baze ?

It's the reason why they threw everything away into Legends and started their own canon novels and comics. Everything is now connected. So any messing with it is a certain no.

No it isn't. That's just a marketing ploy to encourage fans to buy the comics and the books. I would bet pretty much any money that Disney and Lucasfilm would give exactly zero fraks if future movies or tv shows sought to change or contradict anything in their own already published books or comics. That expanded universe stuff is only canon up until it's not. And I think anyone who thinks any of the comics or novels are set in stone indefinitely for the future as far as current canon goes might find themselves facing some harsh and disappointing realities at some point down the line. No one is going to tell JJ Abrams or Jon Favreau or whoever "you can't do that because it contradicts with issue five of Star Wars: Take the Money and Run, published a couple of years back. You'll have to throw those ideas out and start again.". I just don't see that kind of thing ever happening. Ever.

Just my view, anyway.

Directors and writers has whole team of people to do research exactly for those reasons. And so far everything fits in. Thinking that Disney will mess with canon sources and starts altering stuff is just silly.

Right, just keep telling yourself that... :lol

Re: Why no love from Hot Toys for Rogue One Krennic, Cassian and Baze ?

Even the EU was constantly being re-written long before Disney's involvement and that was when George had the final say and the people in charge of the Star Wars canon actually understood Star Wars. One such example was the long running Republic Commando series of books, we never got the last book in the series because the Clone Wars cartoon sought to change the history and meaning of the mandalorians which contradicted everything in the novels rendering them redundant (I'm still bitter about this lol).

So don't get your hopes up too much because I suspect Drake is correct and Disney will quite readily discard books and comics whenever it suits them. Enjoy them now by all means but with a franchise as big as this the canon will always evolve over time especially as new people are brought in to steer the ship.

Indeed. Just try to enjoy what you have, and what is out there now for what it is, that's always the best way. Because who knows what tomorrow might bring.

Not that I'm on one side or the other, but you guys do know they have a Story Group whose sole task is to maintain canon across all mediums. i.e Pablo Hidalgo etc.

They are typically involved in all content creation, so if there are any conflicts of canon they can make directors/writers aware of it, or provide information to justify a tricky topic. Sure a director could ignore that advice, but why do that and have to deal with the Star Wars nerds who have all this in their head ?

I would agree books etc are lower on the chain than say movies or TV. But I would say the chances of a canon conflict are severely reduced with this story group.

Oh man that was such a BAD burn and no matter how much I love Faloni, his take on the Madalorians was just not as compelling as Karen Travis’. #stillsomad :lol

Well to be fair, the story group thing isn’t so new. They’ve always had a team at Lucasfilm, and by extension, Del Rey and Darkhorse, who were monitoring content for continuity. The books and comics were still overwritten. To the earlier point, there were like 4-5 Karen Travis books that were super awesome. The story group pulled the plug on this very “Black Hawk Down” story (btw KT was a war correspondent) to make them pacifist. Wasn’t by accident. They knew exactly what her approved story arc was and ditched it at the opus.

Just Disney hate....you are correct. Disney is not sloppy with their properties , quite the opposite actually.

Amazing news. And with the upcoming TV series I’m sure we’ll get Cassian too.

I wonder if this is happening due to the Captain Marvel figure of Ben probably in production.

2 birds, 1 stone.
I hope we still get Baze. Chirrut looks wrong without him.
