Rattling in the base is somewhat common and not really an issue, they fill them with junk resin and also stalactites that form and break of, not a big deal.

If your crying about foot gaps, just give up on collecting anything.

Why? My stuff doesn't have foot gaps, and it's BAD for statues to have foot gaps. Often they use the tension to keep it properly upright and it could cause issues over time.
