"If one of us doesn’t come back, none of us are..."

I just came back and, it was... good. Not great, not bad (not by longshot), but it was good and it's not worth of it's 50% on RT. More like a 70. Enjoyable, but not original, not well acted at points, cliche and kinda boring. But still, it's good. I'm gonna go over the stuff that mostly stood out to me, for better or worse. So, let's get down to it...

The Characters:

-Nightcralwer was very enjoyable, and I really liked that he kept his optimistic, jokey self, while remaining religious. Fun introduction, and I can't wait to see more of him in the following movies!

-Cyclops: A bit of a departure from the original books, but I like the fact that he's not a pushover this time around. I'm a big fan of Cyclops, especially the more recent, millitant, Post-Schism/New X-Men Cyclops, so I was really happy to see traces of his current characterization in the movie. Colour me impressed.

-The Horsemen: Angel was a brat and... that's pretty much it. So yeah, basically useless. Storm was good enough, I wouldn't mind seeing more, truth be told. Let's hope she's more like Claremont's and not like the awful Storm of recent years. Psylocke was... eh, at least Munn's **** window looked good in 3D...

-The Other X-Men: Jubilee was just... there. Literally, she was just... "there". Beast, Havok (poor guy) and Xavier were just as good as last time. Moira was good enough (though she had some cringy lines) and Magneto, even though Fassbender keeps knocking it out of the park, felt more like a 2D character rather than an actual person. His reasons for doing what he did were weak (the comics did that scene better), and the reason why he got a change of heart was the cringiest thing in a while.

-Mystique: Dear God, why does she have to be so annoying? Her lines are cringy, J-Law's delivery is flat, and the way everyone reacts around her makes her the Fox-Men's Super-Jesus. Eh, at least J-Law looked damn fine in that tight dress in the beginning...

-Quicksilver: His sequence is a bit of a "rip-off" from his DoFP one, but it was longer, better, tighter. I'd gladly watch it over and over, and over again. Apart from that, he continues being enjoyable and a very nice addittion to the films.

-Apocalypse: I really liked him, to be honest. He was a slimy ******* who used deception in order to lure his followers to him, just like a real cult leader. His motivations were rather ill defined (what's the point of destroying everything and going back to 0 every couple of decades, if you're going to deem the next generations failures and do the same thing again?), but he was rather enjoyable.

-Jean Grey: Definitely the standout of the film, and the one with the tighest and most interesting story arc. I like Turner well enough in GoT, but I wasn't sure if she could handle the role. But it turns out, that she more than can. She was a tad afraid, feisty and in the end, bad-ass. Definitely my favourite part of the film. The fact that she looks as she looks didn't hurt (shut up, we've got the same age so it's not creepy!)...

-Wolverine: Neat little cameo, which made me excited for Wolverine 3. The last shot of him running towards the woods was like something out of a cartoon though. I did like his Weapon X get-up, but the lack of a visor bugged me a bit...

The Story/Writting:

A bit cliche, a bit predictable, a bit underwhelming. At first, you really felt that this was going to be an apocalypse, but the more time went on, the more the scale seemed to get smaller, rather than bigger. Some lines were really cringy, to the point where they took me out of the film. Definitely not the film's highlights, let me tell you that...

The Action:

A bit better than Deadpool due to the various powers, a bit better than BvS as well due to the fact that it wasn't a bunch of fireworks having orgasms, but well bellow Civil War and the Airport Fight. Some scenes were good (the cage match, Wolverine), but some were baaaad (the end fight). Jean unleashing the Phoenix was a big "oh ****" moment for me though. So that's a plus there...

Final Thoughts/Verdict:

Much less enjoyable than DoFP, but still a decent flick. Some cliche lines aside, it's entertaining, and it sets up things quite nicely. I'd give it about a 7/10. Good, just not good enough. Give me more Jean Grey and Cyclops, and I'll be happy...

As of right now, Civil War remains the King of this year's CBMs. It was better written, better acted, better shot, more personal, more interesting. From the other 3, Apocalypse came closer, but still didn't manage to hit the mark. No matter what though, it still made BvS look even worse by comparison. From the upcoming flicks, my money's on Suicide Squad to do moderately well (about a 75%), and Doctor Strange to be the dark horse/GotG of the year.

PS: As for how many seats it filled... the number is 6. Nope, not rows, seats. Yeah, not good...

I loved DoFP as well...but this one doesn't seem to intrigue me nearly as much as I hoped it would.

I wish all these CB movies didn't have to be so damn long. What gives? X2 was great and that was close to 2 hours I believe.

Alas this sounds like good craziness. Love seeing the x-men powers on the big screen. And really looking forward to seeing these characters in full make-up, brings me back to a better day. Also I was watching some interviews and this Sophie girl seems really cool and funny, along with the girl playing storm. They seem like great additions.

I have a degree in da movies! I even wrote a paper and gave a presentation on how I didn't like the movies we watched in class and I now knew what kind of films I never wanted to make, the film snobs weren't to happy with me lol

I may be in the minority but i never thught fox ever used the X-men to there fullest potential. I never seen them go all out or really do a huge team up. the sentinial fight was wolverine and beast. The future stuff was done well but that didn't really happen. If you notice the movies have always been an Xmen vs an Xmen from 3 all the way til now. Where are the evil brotherhood mutants at?

Great review, hopefully I enjoy it a little more than you do but I could tell from the trailers that this looked like a downgrade to Singer’s other X-Men films. As for the crowd attendance, I said it before and I’ll say it again, this movie is going to be a flop financially.

Great review darth. :hi5:

Thanks a ton! :hi5:

Well, he can join the DC Loyalist Club. I hear Our Lord and Saviour Andre is always happy to accept new followers... Joking aside, that Andre guy is the craziest Pop-Culture fanatic I've ever seen...

I wonder why it says I wrote that when i didnt lol.

PLAGIARISM!!!111!! Thief! Thief!!!111!

Thanks! Yeah, it was definitely a downgrade, but it still had its moments. Like, Munn's 3D Bewbs, or J-Law's really tight dress, or... Nah, just kidding, there were some legitimately good stuff in there. It's worth the price of admission, that's a fact. It's just not suited for repeat viewings. There are some plot holes in there, and if you were bothered by Zemo's plan in CW, this one especially is gonna drive you nuts:

-Apocalypse's Tech: It's never explained, or even adressed. When we first meet him and he transfers his mind to Oscar Isaac, we also see his tech for the first time, and it's very otherwordly. Light that turns to solid "steel" and manages to connect the two tables and allow his consciousness to be transferred from body to body, a whole pyramid full of such tech, it's all very cosmic, and it's never explained. You can say that's just that smart or that he had time, or that he stole others' "brain power", but the time period from when we last saw him in DoFP and the one now, appear to be more or less the same.
In the books, his tech was Celestial, hence his "Holy Mission", but here it's never challenged or talked about. He just... has it. Not to mention their reason for having all these powers is weak. Supposedly, when he takes over a body, he also gains that person's mutant abillities, while also retaining his past ones. Which makes the tech even more weird, as it's not simply a brain transfer, but it modifies the new body to look like the previous one on a molecular level. It's all very ill defined and not explained.

PS: Also, this was damn violent. Flesh being ripped off, bones emerging from a body, skeletons and muscles being visible, blood being spluttered everywhere. It definitely pushed the PG-13 rating. It was not scary, but it was gory.
