Guys. It's a superhero movie. There are going to be costumes. It's a COSTUME. Not street clothes. It can look crazy. It's probably more of a statement by Erik that he's above everyone else than anything functional, although we know his helmet definitely has a purpose.
I don't think that's the crux of people's gripes at all. :lol

The fan community obviously applauds / celebrates costumes that respect the source a little better than approximated colours & army disposal clearance sale odds & ends. That seems to be the dilemma; Synger's approximations vs common sense & taste.

I haven't read the comics in a long time but I seem to remember Magneto levitates because of the natural iron present in his body.

I don't like the armor look I think there's a better costume out there for him, but I also remember in the comics they developed plastic or ceramic bullets just to take out Magneto, maybe that's in DOFP.
:dunno

Metal soled boots don't defend against rocks, rubber bullets, plastic knives, baseball bats ect...

Then why aren't his arms and legs covered?

It's a stupid trend that started with Green Goblin back in 2002. All this "tactical armor" BS is getting old in superhero films. It's getting stale fast. It's like that's their only reason for making fantastical characters like Goblin, Batman, Robocop, etc. plausible.

It's just a design choice. He doesn't really need it.

Just like Superman doesn't need a Cape and Loki doesn't need a helmet and punisher doesn't need a Skull on his shirt and Hulk doesn't need to be Green.

It matters not.

Then why chest armor? Why not just metal sole boots? :dunno

Just being a complete geek and wasting time here but, what if the dude wants to fly around like Superman? If it is just the soles of his boots, either he has to fly standing straight or upside down. The core would be the ideal place IMO.

Magneto looked fine in the original X-Men films and never needed "deluxe segmented armor". Sure, his helmet was kind of dumb looking, but his overall look was alright. I even liked the yellow/blue jump suits in First Class.

The way Magneto looks in this one though? There's no cohesion. His pants are different from his torso. His arms are different from his pants and torso. The pants are even over his boots like the lame leather X-Men suits which makes them look like trendy tap dancers. He just looks like crap. The future Magneto looks even worse with even MORE armor. :lol

How hard would it have been to have just gone with this again (with the superior helmet and maybe a bit lighter threads)?
