Nothing about that works in live action.

How does it not work? Lose the skull belt and it's perfect. It looks better than the greasy slick back hair and the scales. Mystique was always supposed to be attractive even in her normal state. I wish filmakers would stop trying to ground every comic film into reality. Sometimes it's best to embrace the fantastic elements of your story.

Yeah, I don't see how that works any less than a giant green monster or a dude in an American flag costume. Superheroes and villains shouldn't be believable in the real world, they should just be believable in their own world.

:clap:hi5: I couldn't agree more. If the starting premise of your story has a guy with knives coming out of his hands, fighting with a guy who shoots solar flares out of his eyes, over a girl who can read their thoughts and may be a genocidal celestial goddess; you really need to chuck reality out the door. And if as a filmaker or story teller, those things bother you, then you shouldn't be making/writing/directing this film.

At lease give lawrence some red lip stick and better hair......she looks..............STANK

and for someone who can shape shift, i don't see why they didn't have her morph the scales off and just stay blue.

Ol' Tyrion has got himself on a JET-PLAAAAANE.

Nightwing, do you just want to see an all-blue Mystique? Without scales? What is it you're looking for?

I think Mystique has been one of the better-handled characters in the entire X-Men series and has actually tied in very well. She has always been a good and bad girl so tying her in a close relationship with Professor X helps make her jumps from good to bad make sense.

And plus, it gives us a great opportunity to see two hot Hollywood babes almost naked. :)

I like how she's been handled, but her look doesn't need to be like that. As a matter of fact, they're doing more work to make the character not look like her comic counterpart than they need to with the excess scales.

I don't see what MS's live-action comic characters has in common with FOX's live-action comic characters.

Singer and Co created their own vission (world) specifically for FOX's live-action X-men characters :dunno

Still none of this?

Blue skin, yellow eyes and red hair. Pretty damn authentic adaption to me.

:goodpost:

I've loved Mystique in the movies.

In the first she was just a capable henchwoman, but that line to Gyrich about being afraid to go to school as a child spoke volumes.

X2 showed her devotion to Magneto and her cause for Mutant Supermacy

X3 showed her abandonment by Magneto

First Class showed her simple desire to be accepted in society as who she naturally was (Blue)

I don't think the scales are too over the top. But that's my opinion. It makes her look sleek, it makes her look sexy and unique than just the plain blue skin. Instead of just a girl with blue skin, she has a degree of "ugliness" that she tries to hide from as depicted in First Class.

A lot of people want to see just plain and simple. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. Nowadays, in the film industry, it doesn't work. They want detail and to be unique as well. Would the 70's Superman spandex suit work in 2013? No. It would instantly be compared to Nolan's Batman, Raimi and Webb's Spider-man and every other superhero that has been around. People will think he stepped out of a cartoon.

Look at Nightcrawler. They could've just gave him plain dark blue skin but they took it a step further. Actually TOUCHING on Wagner's religious background in the process. He ritualistically scarred himself up with religious runes. Does it take away from the character? No, it actually adds to him and his self-torment in the X-Men movie universe.

Speaking of which, I hope they get Alan Cumming to do Nightcrawler again for DoFP!

Granted, it is Mystique and even the plain blue...I agree, it could work. But I like the route they went with better.

Agreed with Bardoon. The scales give detail and were adapted from nature (Chameleon) to serve a purpose in her shape shifting.

I'm of the camp that aslong as the key defining elements of the look/costume are in place they can mix around and add a little flourish.

The TFS costume has the blue colour, helmet and red & white stripes, but they made them into more military fatigues, faded them to not be so garish and added lots of straps and buckles.

It worked better than spandex and pirate boots. Same applies to Mystique and Nightcrawler and lots of others.

Another reason this movie will likely suck.
Singer keeps adding characters not in the original story.

I don't think they can both use the character. It was a first to do so arrangement i think but this could be a crossover, who knows.

Either way Pietro is a MUTANT first and foremost

The way Singer worded his tweet, seemed very spiteful. I feel like he wouldn't have added quicksilver if they didn't announce he was planned to be in Avengers 2. Who knows...

No way. This movie has been in development for longer, the script complete and shooting begun.

If Quicksilver is in it it's because it was planned before Whedon said he 'might' use them.
