Is this a Re-boot, or is it just ignoring Wolverine origins? Which did not make sense anyway as Scott Summers should have been younger in that movie than the actor that played him.

No not a reboot, same "continuity" with the previous X-Men movies.

I love the retro comic costumes, but not so much the line-up. I know it would've made them too old by the first film, but it'd make more sense with Beast, Cyclops, Jean Grey and Storm. Hell, retcon Angel and Iceman, or use new characters with similar powers and it would be a better team.

I can't believe Cyclops isn't apart of this team. The character has been short changed in the films. He's pretty prominent and important in the first film but after that he's either in a few scenes, doesn't come until the end under some mind control that makes him bad or he dies.

I'm really not familiar with the comics but I always thought Cyclops was the leader. Right behind Xavier on the team. He sort of has that leader persona in the first film, but it's never carried out, Wolverine mostly takes that spot.

Eh, what do I know. I always liked Cyclops for some reason. Whenever I think "the X-Men", Cyclops, Wolverine, Xavier and other iconic characters come to mind. To not have Cyclops in this one makes it feel "un-X-men" if that makes sense.

Cyclops WAS in the first class. To set this before that when Xavier was young, it'd have to be in the 40s or 50s MAX. Not the 60s/70s.

Wrong. According to the official Marvel site: Xavier is a genius, graduates from Harvard at 16, spends two years in Oxford and then gets drafted into the Korean War. That would place him 18 at 1950 the earliest he'd be able to be drafted into the Korean War. X-Men 1 was in 1963 which you add only 13 years to the age of Xavier. That would put him at 31 when he first forms the X-Men. McAvoy is 31 right now. This means that if they wanted to include Scott Summers according to Marvel canon it'd be just fine.

What people aren't seeing is that X-Men, the original film ____ed up the original timeline which connects to X-Men: Origins Wolverine. This is SUPPOSED connected to continuity but from some comments from Vaughn it doesn't sound like it. Of course including Scott's younger brother as part of the team instead of just saying ____ it to the original trilogy makes no sense. Then again the original set up of the original trilogy did a good job of mixing ____ up anyway so I can't really fault Vaughn there. At least they got Xavier's age right.

Taking movie continuity into account. Didnt we see cyclops get recruited by patrick stewart xavier at the end of origins? Thats probably why he isnt/cant be in this one.

Here is the thing, X-Men: Origins Wolverine was supposed to take place before X-Men, long before it. In X-Men Cyclops, Storm, Jean Grey are the only members of the team. The rest are students at the school. Beast is even a former student at that point which let's say would connect here. That means Beast who is for argument's sake is Kelsey Grammer's age at 51 would put this incarnation of Beast at 8 for Vaughn's film. Since Vaughn is listing Beast as Hank McCoy, the same character, continuity is already screwed up.

Wasn't Emma in Wolverine?

Yes, she was a 23 in Origins: Wolverine (going by the actress's age) whereas now in First Class she is now 33 again going by actress age. Talk about your continuity errors. Not to mention there isn't a specific time span in Origins but going by Cyclops' age in X-Men 27 (by actor's age) and Cyclops' age in Origins, I believe someone said that Scott was supposed to be 17/18 that means that Origins takes place 10 years before X-Men and yet Emma is somehow included almost 10 to 20 years prior is beyond me.

Ah i see, so its pretty messed up anyway you slice it...pity.

re: Timeline continuity....

I was discussing the years that Wolverine took place in relation to X-Men 1 on another board and came up with this:

Logan and Jimmy were recruited during Vietnam, and then after Logan left the group 6 years had passed before Stryker found him again. And that was 15 years prior to X-men.

So if X-men was in 1999, and it was 15 years since the bulk of Origins, then that puts us at 1984 for the movie.

6 years lapsed after Logan left the group, which means he left in 1978 and was working with the group for at least 3 years before he left.

If Origins takes place in 1984 then that puts Cyclops at 17 in Origins but 33 in X-Men which would be fine. Then that puts Emma though at let's say 18 in Origins in 1984 but all of a sudden 33 back in 1964? That also puts First Class which for arguments sakes is said to occur "In the Sixties" but most are placing it in 1963. Even though the Cuban Missile Crisis supposedly is mentioned in it which is 1962, puts Emma at 33 in 1962, deaging her to 18 by 1984. :lol

Continuity was blown a while ago but this is just laughable. They replace a vast number of characters but keep on that is a black eye on the whole process of even bothering?

What if this Emma Frost gives birth to the Emma Frost in X-Men Origins? :horror

:lol
Fox should have just rebooted the whole ____ing thing..

Obviously, several characters do not age, others age slowly, and several others actually regress in age as time moves forward, like Brad Pitt does in that one movie.

School boy error made by Fox not rebooting this ____e. Poor film is dead wood even before its hit theatres.
Never liked Singer's X-Men. Never felt right. Pretty much like his Superman movie.
