Fox Wants Vaughn Back for X-Men Sequel

ComingSoon.net talked to 20thCenturyFox Chairman and CEO Tom Rothman at the Gotham Independent Film Awards last night and he said that they want Matthew Vaughn back to direct the sequel to X-Men: First Class in addition to getting Rupert Wyatt to direct the Rise of the Planet of the Apes sequel.
"Both of them were really great scripts and so we have to be sure to get great scripts again," Rothman said. "We're working hard on the scripts for both of them, but we have every hope of moving forward with them."
The studio has not yet set a release date for the "First Class" follow-up.

It would be cool if both directors returned to their respective franchises.

I agree. In some ways, he did better than Singer. Though, I still like X-Men 2 best. I really enjoyed this movie and look forward to the next!

I enjoyed XM:FC more thatn I though I would.

Vaughn did such a great job with the movie, I really hope that Fox can get him to direct the sequel.

But give him the A-list characters to work with this time. Cyclops, Jean, Angel (Beast is still there), Iceman. Continuity with Singer's X be d@mned.

I hope for a sequel and maybe a trilogy of movies from here,
this one was so much better than the last X men, I liked it, it was a nice change

the only thing I hated was Kevin Bacon, I was like WTF is he doing here?

Absolutely not going to happen. They've already established that these series will focus on the early X-Men of Singer's continuity and his issues with Magneto as they part ways. Basically when this "ends" in totality then his original X-Men duo should pick up. Singer has even mentioned that he'd love to get a chance to film new "current" X-Men films himself essentially picking up where X2 left off.

I just wish they hadn't rushed the schism between Charles and Eric. I think at least another 1/2 movie with them as allies would have been awesome and made the final split even more powerful.

I agree, if it were up to me I would have them together for the first two and then have them go their separate ways in the third. I have a feeling though by the lack of merchandising or even advertising really that Fox thought this would be one and done and not the start of regaining faith within the franchise.

the only thing I hated (Besides Da Bacon) was this, it was so rushed, it was ridiculous, they barely met on first Class, there was in no way any kind of real deep friendship shown in this movie, specially since that friendship was always so talked about and important in the other movie...:monkey4

:lecture I said this myself after my first viewing. While they were comrades I never saw this deep relationship between them.

I would be soooooooo happy with this.

God no! Keep Singer away from comic book films.
