Hi guys,

I've been lurking here and learning from all you talented people for a while now. So, I thought it was time to show something myself; I've always wanted to have my own cool, accurate 1/6 scale Vader (actually, I'm building up a 1:1 scale one too). And after seeing all those gorgeous examples by members here and of course the Vader's by Les Walker and Hurricane, I thought it was time to start my own.

Since I'm actually new at the whole customizing world, (and since I pretty much suck) I won't take much credit for my Vader for my own. I didn't want to ***** it up and decided to enlist the help of the allmighty Hurricane :D

Anyway, here's how it going:

First up, I bought a 13" Dc Direct Superman, because I wanted a nice big Vader.

(I don't remember where I found all the pictures I'm going to post in this thread, so if anyone recognizes them as their own and wants them removed, please tell me)

Secondly, I searched Ebay for an original Kaiyodo Darth Vader kit.
As has been mentioned on this forum several times, this kit really is the best source for most parts (such as the face mask and shoulder armor).

Also I bought two Ultimate Villain sets for the body suit. Since the DC is rather bulky and tall, one UV suit wouldn't suffice.

Is it safe to assume that if you bought two sets of the suits, that you cut them apart and sticthed them back together to make one much taller one?

Yep, that's right. What I did was take one suit and remove the arms (they were too short). I then fitted the armless suit on the Dc direct, which worked pretty well. It was nice tight fit arond the chest and legs.
But since the DC is so long, the legs ofte suit were too short. So I took some fabric from the legs from the second suit to make longer legs.
I also used the rest of the legs from the second suit to use for the arms.
And finally I removed the stiched on chestbox.

Here are some pics:

I just found some more Kaiyodo pictures on my hard drive that I just had to post as well. I love that kit!

The third pic is the mask with Kaiyodo helmet (which doesn't work that well), and the fourth is with the Ultimate Villain helmet (which makes for a great combination)...

Next step was making sure I had everything to proceed forward. When I put the kaiyodo mask and armor on the shoulders of the headless DC, I noticed he was too tall (I already read about it here somewhere but I thought I wouldn't mind him being very tall, but well... now I did).

That's when I thought it would be better to let my Vader be worked on by an expert. So, I shipped him with all my accessories to Hurricane who was gonna finish him for me. That means: painting in an ESB-colour scheme, reveal helmet, custom underrobe and cape with chain, custom chestbox, custom gloves and codpiece, and some work to make the DC shorter.

Hurricane is working his magic right now, so I'm véééry excited :chew

This is everything I have to show for so far, but I'll sure post lots more pics when Hurricane is done and I make the final adjustments.

(Oh, just one more pic to show how tall he is, unmodified):

Looks quite alright to me heightwise, actually.
Only comment I would make is that the sleeves look a bit too large, otherwise, a fantastic work!

I applaud you my friend!! :bow

Taking on Vader is not an easy challenge, one that many customizers fear... Including myself. To tackle it the way you have takes balls... :rock

Can't wait to see the finished work. Glenn is the MASTER. I know he will help you get there, the dude works miracles everyday.

And no kidding about Glenn's work, I'm on pins and needles awaiting the Luke he's doing for me :)

Well, he was about 2.5 cm too tall if you compared him to the other Sideshow jedi's, it just looked wrong to my eyes.
And you're right, the sleeves are too large. That's because they're actually the legs from another UV suit, but they will reworked.

Thanks for your kind words, DA! It really wasn't that scary once you get started, don't worry :D But you're right, it's quite something to get that Vader "Look" right. That's why I took no chances and let Glenn work his magic...

Are you sure you want him shortened? the vader below has the same base body.....in the back to back shot is the DC bodied vader next to a 'regular' bodied vader whos spot on scale wise at 13.5 inches tall ,(taller one being the DC version)

Hi Glenn, thanks for the update, mate!
Well, when I posed him next to my other Sideshow Jedi's, it bothered me a bit that he was too tall. So, if it's possible, could you still make him the correct height for a 1/6-scale Vader? :monkey3
(about 2 centimeters shorter maybe? I don't know exactly...)
