If you remember that huge SEARS christmas catalog we all use to get before the holidays......

I miss the Service Merchandise Christmas catalogs. :(

The Service Merchandise was better because half the stuff in the Sears catalogue seemed to be cancelled or delayed by the time Christmas arrived. Also they printed pictures of prototypes that looked nothing like the final product. The SM catalog usually had stuff that was in the store.

We had a Service Merchandise Toy Store nearby and I used to talk my dad into buying me video games. I still have an LED handheld football game from there in a box of junk somewhere.

...fondly remember the toy gun aisle in Toys R Us. So much win back then...until you got accidentally shot for having a toy gun that looked too realistic.

Apparently TRU is not allowed to sell any toy gun that has any relesmblence to a real weapon.

Bull****. Those were the best. When I was a kid back in the 90's, I used to play outside with incredibly realistic toy guns, and no one ever called the cops.

I was at the local park, where it seemed no one was around, at least in my vicinity. My buddy was playing with his baseball bat, swinging it and such. I found this airsoft shot gun I've been looking for, which I lost in there. I pulled it out to show my friend, for all of 10 seconds.

Within 5 minutes, 8 cops surrounded the area. I left before they all came, but had to come and explain to the 8 cops, who arrested by buddy, that it was just an airsoft gun.

Apparently two little kids saw bats and guns from a distance, and called the mom, who acted like a snotty ***** the entire time.

It was bizarre. People are really sheltered. I rarely see any kids playing with guns outside any more. Eh.

When I was a kid (Grandpa Simpson voice) my mom and I would sit in the back yard with my air rifle and shoot soda cans off a nearby landscaping wall. BBs would make a neat little hole and pellets would tear the crap out of the can. We could do that for hours and nobody would give us any static.

You might be old if your cool toy guns looked like this i've been on the hunt since my mom sold a lot of kick ass toys in a garage sale a long time ago and never even asked me .......I didnt have the one in pic i had a berreta handgun that shot the same bullets and understand why they outlawed them because they looked very, very real...The brand is LARAMI always thought was a daisy brand but was wrong anyway they had a AMAZING selection back in the day ....I still have a 9 mm but its broke and needs to be fixed that a friend gave me..Anyway miss my cool gun toys from back in the day...I bought a airsoft with laser sight but we always want our original toys from back in the day....

They're starting to play some of the music I grew up with like REM on the oldie station. That makes me feel kind of old.

When you have to explain what a CD is. :slap

I feel like the Grandpa from The Princess Bride. "In my day television was called books!"

I got no grief. :lol

People need to calm down a bit. I can, at the very least, understand calling the cops.

But 8 officers? And also for swinging a bat around, hitting invisible balls? At a park? Not to mention they though we were a gang?

No sir, I do not agree with the insane leaps in logic. Will I say that what I did was wrong? Sure.

But that was over the top. :lol

You're grandfathers talked how wonderful the Austrian-Hungarian empire was,how the world changed after WWI,and how we have been testing our freedoms since. They were born in 1880 and 1892 and lived for 97 and 95 years respectively .I miss them deeply

Not really, you are younger so this was probably post Columbine. If the police didn't act like that and some moron then committed a crime or killed people they would be held accountable and likely sued. If someone is running around like a moron with bats and guns I'm not going to investigate by myself if I'm a cop. I'm going to call for some back up and then worry about sorting everything out.

This is what's wrong with today's kids. Cops get a call regarding kids at a public park armed with a gun and a bat. And your perspective is so narrow-minded and self-centered as to not understand why the police would show up in force?

Nah, to be appropriate, the actions in that gif would need to be reversed.
