If we were talking about the best soundtrack, I'd give it to Elfman and Shirley Walker, easily.

Zimmer did a great job with Begins, TDK etc. and Elliot Goldenthal made some catchy themes for the Schumacher films, but nothing compares to the classical, haunting scores that Elfman and Walker have done.

Tim Burton captured the fantasy elements beautifully.

Personally, I dont think 89 was fantasy. It was joker who fell into a vat gassing gotham with poison gas. it wasnt fantasy. Returns was with the penguin army armed with rocket missles and the circus etc.

89 was really grounded in comparison to Returns.

Returns still has probably the best scene from any Batman film;

Yeah.. I guess my point was more that I love the fact that the Burton films embrace the fantasy element.
