Try it out, some scenes fall flat while others deliver the goods, especially the 1st 30 minutes.

Not consistently good though because of black space.

Yeah, I satyed clear of it because of the depth of field issue. But I saw a bit of the opening the other day while clearing the DVR and I just have to see that first 30 mins in 3D. Also, the fire-ball sequence inside the capsule with all that stuff flying around must be great, yes?

I found the 3D in DOFP (which I know jye doesn't have) to be excellent, particularly with regard to Blink's portals. The Rogue Cut comes out a week from tomorrow.

Also ASM2 has some of the best 3D superhero action of any movie.

:lol :lol :lol

Predator doesn't come close to the "3D spectacle" of seeing Spiderman free falling and swinging, but you see which movie I recommended to you.

It was Predator, why?

Because it's freaking Predator! :lol

Any recommendations on an affordable 7.1 receiver with 3D pass through and at least 120 watts ?

I think it entirely depends on what you want to spend but I love my Pioneer so I'd possibly recommend one of them.

Look at the VSX range perhaps the 1024-K (although only 80W @ 8ohm) at $500 or the 1124-K (again under what you want at only 90w @ 8ohm) at $600 which while being 3D are also 4K ready so all set for the next upgrade too ;)

Although another quick look & the VSX-1130-K at $600 might be worth a look too...Dolby Atmos, 3D, 4K but still only 100w @ 8ohm

Onkyo also have the TX-NR545 & TX-NR646 at similar prices for the same sort of spec but nothing at 120w that I can see for less than $1000 & then you'd be looking at Pioneers Elite SC range which are hugely impressive but with a price to match (SC82 for example at $1300)
Onkyo's equivalent would be the RZ range with the entry level TX-RZ800 at $1300 but not out just yet.

Anyway hope that gives you some food for thought buddy :)

My dad called and wants me to get the Pioneer Elite SC-85. :panic:

I told him he would have to be gifting me if that's the case !

I don't think it even worked for me !

I think if I were to get that one, I would be good FOREVER

Fixed that for you ;)

I know I definitely would be.

The annoying thing for me is as you know I just upgraded all mine & now I want to go to 3D & 4K which means I need another new amp & trying to get that past the wife is going to be almost impossible ;) lol

I went backwards. From 5.1 Surround, to just a soundbar system. Works for my Neanderthal needs. I likely have more tied up in my Turntable system than AV, and I've never wanted anything to do with 3D...

I've thought about doing that. If I had a dedicated home theater I would definitely put a soundbar under the living room tv. I went with a 3.1 system for a little while and I did miss the surround effects enough to add the rears. My turntable is Rega P3 and I have it integrated into my home theater via the phono input on my Marantz SR6006 receiver.
