Well I'm glad you liked parts of it at least. So here's the big question then for you; ST---canon or no?

For me the sequel trilogy is not canon. I know your probably not surprised by my answer. Still they have some cool scenes and aspects but I look at it as a what if type of story. Maybe Luke is telling the story to his students or maybe it is Leia telling the story. In My eyes I have the original trilogy and Rogue One for my go to Star Wars fix. It's like so many other movie series that I don't count the sequels that come way later. Terminator and Indiana Jones and a couple that come to mind. Blade Runner, Tron and Mad Max are the exceptions because I really enjoyed the sequels.

Yeah I'm not surprised but you definitely can't go wrong with the OT and RO. :duff

I think I've decided that as much as I enjoyed Solo that I can't really count it as canon. I don't mind a recast of a background character (Mon Mothma, etc.) but not Luke, Han, Leia, Lando, Obi-Wan, Anakin, or Palpatine. Plus having Maul in Solo is kind of a big gateway to TPM and while it was fun to entertain for a while now I'm just all "nah," lol.

Very true. Like I said I can watch the newer trilogy as background noise and watch certain scenes. Some great scenes but don't care for the overpowered Rey and poor Finn just does a lot of yelling and sweating. What was he going to tell Rey? Was he going to tell her his love was for Poe or does he want to be the pivot girl between them? Weird dynamic between the 3 of them.

YES!!!!!!! A thousand times yes! :rock :rock :rock

Dude I don't think I even made the connection between "strike me down" and "more powerful than you can possibly imagine" and that we literally saw Palpatine's version of that, or at least his attempt at that! :yess:

Everything you said, though, so spot on and totally agree.

And holy crap I am so freaking buzzing on 4K SW right now I just got done watching RO and holy freaking CRAP that movie is jaw dropping in proper 4K from beginning to end from the opening starfield and planetary ring right up until the battle at Scarif. Bill Hunt wasn't kidding when he was calling out the "5,000 nits of brightness" (whatever the hell that is, lol) because holy crap the brightness of the explosions and lasers in the dark on Eadu and of course against the black space background on Scarif, that third act has to have some of the best excitement and visuals of *any* movie, period. :thud:

If you ever want the space battle we didn't get in TROS then we'll forever have RO which is awesome because then the two films just compliment each other. And damn I didn't even realize that with TROS Palpatine electrocuting the entire fleet that he literally got *his* "RO Vader" moment. :rock I also love how the establishing of Vader's castle on Mustafar nicely sets up the opening of TROS with Kylo going there to look for the Wayfinder.

Dude I'm so pumped that you enjoyed TROS again and now I can't wait to check it out on 4K disc. Disney+ GTFO, lol. And of course RO had the proper subtitles for the aliens and not that closed caption bull**** with the black borders on D+.

Yeah I passed on the BB SB because I didn't like Kylo being in a crouching position squaring off against nobody, lol. So I went with Walmart since it has both Kylo and Rey together (even if Kylo does have the mask on.)

No OLED will be capable of displaying that 4,000 nits.

I believe HDR starts at 700.

Non HDR tv output 300 lol

My Quantum X is rated for 3,000 but like all other tvs that?s only during certain circumstances at unique bright peaks but it can still output 800 nits across the entire screen.

Sony new 8K has a 10,000 nit output lol

Okay you made me go back and check his review and it looks like he said 4000 not 5000 lol but still, it looked freaking insane. :thud:

The HDR adds a measure of richness and nuance to the palette, deepens the shadows, and allows the highlights to be genuinely eye-reactive (peak brightness is set at a surprising 4000 nits, per the disc’s metadata).

10,000 nits will require wearing those special glasses for looking at a solar eclipse, lol.

That?s still insane lol

Even when the Quantum X hits its 3,000 peak it is still a full 1,000 nits below that disc encode lol

Insane.

lol@eclipse boxes

Things to do with Sony 8K 10,000 nits tv with RO:

cook eggs on it
melt ants
bat signal

I liked his force angle shame they really didn?t go anywhere with it.

But I guess it showed that he needed to let Rey go and be more concerned with the overall battle.

Imagine if he was a Palpatine lol

Samsung announced they will NO LONGER be making QLED LCD TVs 2020 will be the last year!!!!!

They will instead only make OLED!!!

HOLY CRAP!!!!

OLED WON THE WAR because with Samsung pulling out that is the end for LCD tech as we know it micro or otherwise.

Sorry TCL!

I don?t know how I feel about that.

OLED light output is a problem.

How am I supposed to enjoy my 14,000 nit RO transfer now!! :gah:

WB just did a blind survey with 139 individuals where they had them come in and rate various scenes from Dunkirk and some Pixar movies to see if their eyes could tell the difference between 4K and 8K. They didn't tell them which was which and it...did not go well, lol.

I was amazed to see how many scores rated the 4K version better than the 8K version. When I asked Michael Zink about this, he replied, “I believe the reason you see a large number of people rating ‘4K better than 8K’ is that they really can’t see a difference and are simply guessing.

:lol :lol

8K is so DOA, lol.

8k really? 4K is good enough for my eyes I don’t need to see every nose hair in a Smurf’s nose.

As long as my tv remains below 100 inch i?m ok with 4K.

Just improve the light output and HDR implementation.

But you also brought up a great point about burn in and I will also add the eventual degradation of those OLED pixels and how that impacts lifespan during heavy use cough ME cough.

Ironically enough Samsung future tech was their OLED killer iOLED micro led for lack of a better term i?m just making that up because it is the INORGANIC version of OLED.

Their microscopic subpixels were self emitting LED but from I read super hard to align correctly in formation at mass production levels but it was already being used in their now infamous WALL display.

Don?t take away my nits you nimwits lol

I haven't heard anything about Samsung abandoning stuff to go for OLED. Only thing I heard was that they're stopping regular LCD production and focusing on QLED

The micro LED displays will be what we really want, since they have none of the problems that OLED has. It's just really expensive right now.

Nope it is legit.

Zero LCD productions starting 2021 as they convert to their new QLED tech I believe an 11 billion investment.

They created a new self illuminating QLED Quantum Dot no longer made with toxic cadium.

It is not Organic so it will still be called QLED but it will no longer require the long standing traditional LCD/LED guts per se.

No more LED backlighting to worry about plus no burn in and 1 million hour pixel life.

Since no LED sleeve it can now be super thin like the OLED.

Hmm okay those sound like they might be acceptable upgrades then especially if the black levels on QLED are as awesome as I hear with no burn in.

Jeez we have now arrived where LCD/LED will be a thing of the past christ o mighty dude that is just nuts!

First CRT backlighting.

Then LCD backlighting.

Then Edge LED backlighting.

Then Rear LED backlighting.

Now ZERO LCD/LED will be required!

Samsung is saying their self illuminating QLED brightness will smoke LG OLED!

Dude I believe it!

At first when I heard this I thought OLED had won the war.

NOPE, OLED about to lose that war lol

So all of the pure black that OLED has but with none of the drawbacks plus 3,000 real nits and up!
