Just finished it. I have a lot of nitpicks and to be fair, this is a blockbuster effects-laden film based on comic books, so I can easily pick apart most MCU films too. There are some glaring issues here but in some ways, upon my first impression this along with Wonder Woman, Man of Steel and...well...nothing else immediately comes to mind...seems like the best we're gonna get out of this incarnation of the DCEU, such as it is.

I want to give the movie a C+. I don't regret watching it, but it's popcorn held together with gaffer tape and Christmas lights. :lol

My bullet point first impressions in the spoiler tags below -- I literally jotted these down as I watched the 4 hour flick:

  • Superman?s scream triggered them? I guess it gets explained later, sort of.
  • Some of the cinematography is beautiful.
  • Aquaman takes his sweater off but leaves his pants and boots on to dive, sometimes. It's inconsistent.
  • Those village chicks are really into him LOL -- I guess it's the whole 'gods among us' trope.
  • Steppenwolf looks like a video game. Still.
  • Over complicated suicidal sealing mechanism on Themyscira? Check.
  • Terrible CG on Themyscira.
  • ?It?s toxic, that?s good? LOL -- I guess it was expository monologue to explain why it's a good secret base but still. Scenery chewing.
  • Alfred?s preeeetty salty to Bruce. Takes me out of it.
  • Janitor in lab was dumb. Doesn't he watch movies?
  • So...the Parademons smell the box but went to the lab and not Cyborg?s closet?
  • Historic site on fire for days and Diana just walks up to it and retrieved the arrow with no one around?
  • How did she know where to take it? I guess you could hand-wave that away.
  • Drowning sailor in rough sea has no life jacket or emergency equipment? Talk about not 'respecting the storm'.
  • Aquaman is a litterbug with that whisky bottle. Sure, the ocean's your trash can, buddy.
  • Why are all the Macguffin Boxes on earth? Oh wait, they were forgotten there by dude whose career is conquering with those key tools.
  • So Steppenwolf just wants to go home and chill after being assigned to b******k nowhere? That?s his big conflict?
  • Wasn?t Aries the bad guy Wonder Woman killed? Can't keep all these old gods straight.
  • LOTR battle ? why doesn?t Darkseid just use bombs and guns against all those melee weapons? You suck Green Lantern.
  • No one came back for the all-powerful Macguffin Boxes?
  • Everyone else: set up boss fight dungeon to hide the boxes. Humans: let?s just put it in a shallow hole (like Cyborg?s closet LOL).
  • Bruce and Diana?s would-be awkward rom-com stuff is the wrong kind of awkward for this film. WTF?
  • Diana?s assertion that Aquaman is ?mixed? because he can breathe air contradicts what we know from his solo film; and if her people know them and went to war with them, she should know this? Or am I forgetting something?
  • Hey Flash, don?t touch the girl?s hair all creepy when you?re saving her. It?s called ?consent?, creeper.
  • Zach is at times heavy-handed but he?s sometimes decent at conveying emotional beats.
  • Cyborg is experiencing a moment of TOTAL TRIUMPH at the game but he?s immediately destroyed because his dad wasn?t there? And now he?s pissed because instead of dying or ******** into a colostomy bag he?s an AWESOME CYBORG? There?s just no pleasing him. Okay, I guess he blames dad for mom because you know, it's not her fault she's a terrible driver and not aware of her surroundings.
  • Lay off the slow-motion Zach.
  • So...on Earth -- Cyborg is a god.
  • The parademon is RIGHT THERE ... big bad Ringwraith KNOWS the box is there, and buzzes off over a small crowd and a cop? What did I miss?
  • Barry?s father ... does Zach have daddy issues?
  • Speaking of heavy-handed, hello Mercedes Benz product placement
  • Victor needs to stop standing and walking like Cyber Gollum. We get it, you're mad about being an awesome cyborg but this is state of the art alien tech. Stop being a spazz.
  • Zach wants to be operatic but then he throws in electric guitars to be badass or emo songs. Maybe pick one mood and stick with it?
  • Powerless middle-aged Bruce leading a demigod, an Alien Tech demigod and a trans-dimensional being who can exist outside of regular space-time LOL yeah put that guy in the cape in front.
  • ?I?m real when it?s useful? ? that?s a nice Batman line.
  • ?I belong to no one? ? LOL that?s not what he meant learn some context Diana.
  • Flash grabs every single piece of falling debris but somehow misses one and freezes in shock so Cyborg can shoot it? Lame.
  • I get that as a godlike being one needs to delegate, but Darkseid?s most coveted thing is on Earth and he decides to let his disgraced middle manager take care of it? And why didn?t he know it was on Earth? Did he misplace it? Took a bump on the noggin in that fight and forgot?
  • Aquaman suspecting Victor?s ?working for them? ? so he?s a COMPLETE ***** conspiracy theorist what now?
  • How is Clark?s disappearance get treated / reacted to when Superman dies?
  • Macguffin Boxes are dumb machines that just do what their creator says but they were aware of and afraid of Superman. Quite the leap of logic to risk a planet on, Bruce and co.
  • Is Diana really 5000? She looks great.
  • Alien biohazard containment breach and they just let everyone evacuate to the street willy-nilly and there's only one guy in a containment suit? THAT'S HOW YOU GET XENOMORPHS, GUYS.
  • How did Martian Manhunter know about Lois?
  • What did Cyborg see? What?s with the visions!
  • Another dad bites the dust LOL.
  • After losing their boxes, the Atlanteans and Themyscirae simply moped while our heroes did all the heavy lifting??
  • ?I told you so Master? LOL middle managers.
  • Superman appearing to beat Steppenwolf?s *** still quite satisfying. Very super.
  • Colour toning in this cut far superior albeit still too much poor CG.
  • A deeply flawed film, but gotta respect the ambition.
  • Far more satisfying than the Whedon version.
  • Dad?s happy Flash is getting a crap job instead of a law degree?
  • Why is Bats randomly standing on a giant tank? Is he about to go fight Mutants?
  • This would have been a mediocre but serviceable start to a shared DC universe.
  • Did Diana not want to check on Themyscira at all? Or can?t she?
  • Nice shot of Superman being Super in Metropolis at the end. Still back in black tho.
  • Security protocols at Arkham are trash.
  • Lex?s female bodyguards are so 80s. Robert Plant meets...Tom Vu?
  • Okay that IS the darkest timeline.
  • Leto Joker was well done.
  • Ultimately this is what DCEU should have been. It felt like a comic to me, flaws and all.

I don’t care what people say..but WW is still the standout of this era of DCU films and Jenkins has her hand on the pulse in just two films already overall

Synder is unique..and I’ll leave it at that :)

WW1 was pretty solid, the sequel is a big mess. Giving anybody total control is usually a bad thing 99% of the time.

Absolutely 100% he kept emphasizing it..but after seeing the whedon parts, I can?t believe the scenes like Superman beating the crap out of Batfleck and the after effects of Batfleck and the scene with WW wasn?t in Synder?s original formula :(

Another rare that I liked Whedon added was the Aquaman being possessed by the lasso gag. I know it was kind of cheesy overall but at least in showed Momoa?s acting chops and gave Aquaman a personality at the time

Plus I liked when the dude smacked WW in the head with the rifle and then she clocked him

Yeah, while yet to see the Snyder Cut, I can say I'll be sad to see those bits go.

The good thing about that eventhough WW84 was a mess in story .it’s still overall a fun franchise so far and in terms of Jenkins of having full control..she’s not trying too ..in fact they want her to do a third and she hasn’t agreed yet

That is the rumor, but honestly they might be looking at their options, or negotiating with her to have less 100% control.

I am not interested in a third movie at this point.

Can someone tell me why people online are comparing this to LOTR? Like... am I losing my mind? This isn't anywhere near close to LOTR on any level. Like... I'm the biggest PT fanboy here and you don't see me going around social media saying it is an epic that rivals LOTR :lol

The Whedon character interactions are mostly gone. A few I am happy to see gone, but a lot of the team dynamic/conflict is gone :(

Superman almost has less to do in this movie too, if that is possible.

So disappointing and very surprised believe me..did not expect it at all coming into the Synder Cut

However...

The missing element of the Russian family...Hell to freakin Yes!! . I will not and cannot believe to this day what possessed Josh to even include this idea , let alone focus so much of this train wreck of character development in the plot of his cut
:clap

Are you serious :lol

Maybe in terms of movie length in time only..LOTR is a masterpiece

The female ( forgot her name ) she was the King’s cousin played by Otto in LOTR had a huge contribution to the films in terms of female character and standout than anything WW did in Synder cut alone . And this has nothing to do with Gal’s performance

And that is just a tidbit comparison how whoever thinks Synder’s JL is compared to LOTR. :slap

Movie is a masterpiece! It saved the dceu for me! Like tros saved the ST for jaws.

Lol just kidding but it was a good movie. I say a solid 8/10. Much better than the crappy other movie and flash is done so well. I actually really liked the joker and want more of that joker instead of cringe 2010s rapper joker.

The cgi tho was at times very bad tho. Cyborg still looked silly. And some scenes were weird. It was like I was watching a music video at times.

The one flash scene where he saved iris was beautiful tho.

Wasn?t a bad movie at all. And I if they hire Snyder again I hope they don?t meddle in his work .

Also steppenwolf was very good. Much better design and voice. Felt bad for him at times.

Movie wasn?t a masterpiece or the savior of cinema like fanboys claim but it was a much better movie than most of the dceu .

I haven't watched the Snyder Cut yet but I can only imagine that

Zack didn't include anything with respect to actual human imperilment and WB/DC wanted something to that effect. I agree it was cringeworthy at best, so maybe the location of the battle limited his options? But given it led to yet another cringeworthy moment in the Flash/Superman people saving competition, no need to ever see it again lol.

It had the same kinda tone but it?s far from lotr. The cgi is awful sometimes and scenes drag. It has an epic feel but it?s not lotr or any masterpiece. Maybe to a hardcore Snyder fanboy but it?s a good movie

Yes, as previously discussed, maybe you could call it "the LOTR of superhero movies", i.e. similar in scope and grandeur if not story.

I always thought the Snyderverse felt more "epic" than the MCU. Ironically I think it makes the MCU look like HBO.

Don’t hesitate to watch the Snyder cut..location becomes completely irrelevant..as it should be

I thought the movie was great. Perfect no, like with the score and some scenes needed to be cut down a tad, but I liked it better than Endgame. I feel like justice was served to the former ***** execs, that actually spent a ton more money while there was easily a ZS 2-2.5 movie here. A waste to want this movie "funnier" when they all read and approved the script or he wouldn't of been allowed to film. A lot of great action and got to see way more Steppenwolf, which I felt was badly needed. Will definitely be buying the bluray, which is my way of saying it is a great film. Hope we get to finish the series with enough pressure on WB. Why stop now?

Yea it had that scope and tone similar to the movies. I got that vibe . I think people are just not being clear . It?s made like lotr but it?s not on par with it
