I'll be writing a 6 part series of posts, with a prologue, and about 4-5 epilogue posts, on why this movie sucks. It will be an epic. I challenge any of you to debate my points.

Why? What do you hope to gain from doing that?

It's your right to do so of course I just don't see the fun in putting energy into something you didn't like.

The hours spent this week on hate watching an extremely long movie, then repeatedly telling no one in particular you don't like it and then spending more hours writing up a review in segments that no one asked for or wanted sounds like a waste of one's time.

I had a blast watching this. But if there's any chance that Snyder does a follow-up film, I hope he ditches Chris Terrio. To me, Terrio's screenplays are just too much of a cluster**** (and with plenty of subpar exposition and plot progression).

Personally, I'll watch this Snyder Cut in the future by splitting it in two parts - right around the midpoint, leaving both around 2 hours each. The first half ends with that new hallway reveal after Martha and Lois have a chat at the table; and coming right after the JL decide to revive Superman.

Heck, if WB had let Snyder finish in the first place, they could've split the film this way for theaters and just released the first part in 2017 and the second in 2018. I think the advantage with that would've been to have an entire first movie without Superman's return so that his BvS sacrifice would've had more time to breathe and carry more weight.

The first part would've already included a big battle between the JL and Steppenwolf (plus Parademons). Then just end it on the Supes hologram (or something along those lines), and start hyping his return in the buildup to the second part being released.

Oh well. Just glad this version got finished and released. I dug it. Some enjoyably silly, over-the-top fun to be had throughout all 4 hours. And I love that Snyder stays true to telling a story that *he* wants, rather than worrying about pleasing anyone else. Bravo!

Hindsight is always 20/20 but it's apparent that Snyder sold WB on a JL with Parts 1 & 2, Part 1 being they take on Steppenwolf and then Part 2 he would up the ante with Darkseid. He just either failed to mention Part 1 would need to be 4 hours long or didn't read the room when he did. I'm not about to defend WB and the subsequent decisions they made with respect to the cobbled together 2017 release, but Snyder was practically asking to get canned back then when he delivered a 4 hour flick. MCU films like IW & Endgame could justify long running times because they'd built up good will and a fan base well beyond that of the typical CBM crowd. Zack hadn't delivered that yet, so he was only deluding himself if he thought that it going to be greenlit.

In his defence, he *did* give us two of the best dead-dad moments in modern cinema!

I often think Goyer and Terrio should get some of the credit/hate that Snyder gets. For instance I've never heard Snyder adequately explain the Martha moment; I'd love to hear their take.

This is true also of Lucas and the Wachowskis.

In the end it was better to get this now than in 2017, cos less studio interference. He even gets his name in the title; the ultimate vindication!

Whedon JL is super friends cartoon levels of trash.

This was an entertaining fun 4 hours and what we should have gotten in 2017 it didn’t feel long or bloated at all for me.

BUT...

Christ even at 4 hours he still didn’t adequately explain certain plot elements like the anti life equation and future visions by Cyborg.

Mother box still a convoluted plot device why 3 of them and not 2 or 15 lol

Also the JL power levels were all over the place.

One second they can’t handle SW then next second they can easily take him on without breaking a sweat.

Same for the parademons one second Batman can take on hundreds then next second he needs the ENTIRE JL just to take on 2!

Superman black suit didn’t make a lick of sense and makes for an ugly Hot Toys figure.

Why didn’t queen hyppolyta amass her armada earlier and why would they not join the human race in fighting SW.

Cyborg attacking Superman after he is reborn still seemed forced.

Flash is injured one second laughing the next.

Took too damn long to fix that plane.

GG narration over the big battle was super bad like she was reading off a piece of paper.

CGI looks super dated especially when compared to
Mandalorian and Falcon and Winter Soldier you know tv shows lol.

Flash was well utilized I loved his scene running thru the window finger first great choice of music.

Cyborg was an actual character this time.

SW was an actual character this time.

GG bank scene was spectacular!

Humor was really well done.

Loved the Batman Begins call back with Batman on the icy mountains.

The plot had a coherent forward path.

It was worthy of having been made.

Impossible to tell this story at 2 hours Whedon was nuts for even trying.

It can’t live up to the momentum of IW/EG because they did it the right way.

My wife never sings to my sweater FML.

People love to rag on that Martha thing. Why is it so weird? Batman was in this murderous rage, and hearing the name of his beloved dead mother snapped him out of it. Just happens to be Superman's mom's name too.

The only problem I ever had with it is that there hasn't been a woman named "Martha" born since the 1930s.

(I'm exaggerating but it's an extremely old fashioned name and is not at all common for women in the United States...maybe Diane Lane's mother's generation, but not hers.)

Ducky you brought the PT into this discussion like you do in every thread. And yes i do think justice league part 2 could easily compete with the “crapfest” called wanda vision. Talk about a complete waste of ****ing time. The two most powerful characters in the mcu are now women why because disney doesnt care about good movies anymore they care about their agenda. You hated the ST but that is what the mcu is turning into. They wont even fire kk, the ceo had the nerve to tell board members that she is doing a good job when they questioned why she was still employed

I brought up the PT because somebody else wanted to attack my sig telling me how I can’t criticize this movie because I like the PT.

So what is it? It can compete with Disney+ or WandaVision? Two very different things. It can compete with WV because that was crap with no action.

This place is real weird.

“Don’t post if you say it sucks!”

“Don’t beat a dead horse!”

“Don’t post when you are gonna discuss the movie!”

“Hur hur we bash the PT 20 years later but don’t talk about this anymore!”

I’ll just delete my account and be on my way.

My problem with the Martha thing was never really that it was used as a device for Bruce to find human commonality with Superman - I just always found it extremely jarring the way Supes just blurts out the name suddenly - if he knew what he was doing when he said it, fine - but it seems to me the more natural thing for him to say in that moment would have been ''you're letting him kill my mother''...which probably would have been enough to give Batman pause in any case.

That and the Hulkbuster :horror

And I still have some left over :yess:

Go on then, who are you getting?

Knightmare double pack but will sell black suit and buy blue JL Superman.

On Ebay as we speak looking at BvS/Suicide Squad Batman and blue JL Superman.

I will never own a WW with rooted hair that is called a Barbie lol

That latter one is how Snyder explains it, but I feel it goes deeper than that, whether it's Bruce finally redeeming himself by "saving Martha" or seeing his dying father in Clark (or both). I'd love to hear once and for all the writers' true intent - whether it's profound or otherwise.

It had to be Martha, for the above reasons. You can rationalise it by Clark trying to protect her identity till the last gasp, even if that is a bit of a stretch.

That blue JL Superman figure perplexes me. Beautiful execution of the suit, frustratingly awkward body shape.

Knightmare Batman has always been a striking look for him, don't think I need him though. Batman in a coat and army pants, I dunno. Highly specific.

The Wonder Womans look kinda small-headed to me, gonna wait till that 1984 figure comes out at least.

At least scene specific to an actual cool scene :lecture

But a Batman in his costume is still required as well :lecture

HT Superman has huge thighs lol

During the 10 minute Lois Lane coffee scene Snyder missed an opportunity for yet another garbage music selection. At least this one would have made some sense.

That video actually made better emotional connections than this movie. :rotfl

I always thought of Snyder as a good director and cinematographer. He can really create beautiful scenes on the screen. As much as Sucker Punch was an awful film, it was really good eye candy at least. Give him a good script, and he'll make a good film out of it.
