Re: Zack Snyder's Justice League coming in 2021
In fairness, I'm being glib, I don't know much about the guy beyond having seen his films and this thread but yeah -- there's a time warp there. I had a great time in the late '80s and particularly the '90s. I still have a soft spot for a lot of the aesthetic choices and zeitgeist from those times, but the zeitgeist moves on.
If all you want is angry young men with comic books and no girlfriends, keep making super dark DC films. But I think it's obvious the MCU succeeded in part by not taking themselves too seriously all the time. Given the subject matter, it's almost a pre-requisite. Snyder and company shouldn't slavishly imitate the MCU but it wouldn't hurt them to stretch a bit, the better to find a voice people want to be entertained by. I empathize, it's not easy and everyone's a critic, but hey -- it's their job.
He definitely has issues..
I think he's stuck in the late 80's after Frank Miller's The Dark Knight released. He still imagines that every hero being dark and edgy would be way cooler.
