I'm kind of tempted to just go all in the sculpt and see what I can do with it.
Maybe with a ton of customing and touch-ups, and a TBL S17, it might just be passable.

I feel like SW tried, I really do. But also that they experimented on it without any final quality control. Like they thought "eh gonna have to be good enough till we know what we're doing" kind of thing. 🙄
I'm also not sure what they were thinking when they chose that body. Like really? Thats the one you're gonna go with? Lol

Is SW an actual company with a factory, or a company that commissions a factory?

I'm in the model railway biz and a lot of companies that make our toy trains... don't. They do some research and CAD work, but the manufacturing is done by whatever factory they've contracted to do the job. QC has been lackluster for years now and it's not like you can trace the factory for remedial work because the moment you do, they've already disappeared and been replaced by three more doing the same job.

Point/question being, has SW actually manufactured this themselves or have they been done dirty by a third party doing the work?

Finally got the MT RE4 head with the non movable eyes from Aliexpress.

I received the wrong headsculpt the first time I ordered. Then asked another seller if they had the right head, with pictures showing the differences. Then that seller argued with me for a week that they were the same thing. Despite me sending multiple photo’s. Then he checked the warehouse and finally admitted he was wrong lol.

I’m glad I got one. The expression really sells it (Damtoys could never). Likeness is a big step up compared to the old sculpt. Now I just wanna replace Leons head for a custom. Stock one is so unimpressive. Hoping a decent third party head comes out soon.

Most companies in this hobby are the latter. The manufacturers aka 'companies that we see offering product' are not the ones actually producing the product. They just develop a prototype and give it to a factory, and tell them to reproduce it.

Most companies will typically work with multiple factories. You'll have one that does the cut and sew (clothing pieces/soft goods), one that produces the hard parts, like bodies, heads, accessories. Usually there's one factory just for firearms. WAMAX was the name of one of the factories that was the primary source of 1/6 scale weapons a while back. Not sure if they're still the primary source.

Not all factories are "fly by night" as you describe, but the way it works now, the companies/manufacturers have the flexibility to swap through different factories to get the desired result.

The hardest part of the job is finding a reputable, reliable manufacturing partner. When I was in the biz, it took us a long time just to find a manufacturing partner to produce heads with paint and hair how we wanted it, then we had to work with them to send those finished products to our primary factory, that produced the bodies, did all the final assembly, and packaged things up.

Lol, you argued with the seller for a week?

I’m guessing that me and glitch were the only ones that got DI Jill? Lol 😂 it’s so quiet in this thread.
I was going to get it but I cancelled it in the end because I thought it's not worth getting when I could get something else with that money especially as the quality isn't great
