The world is crammed with questionable corporate choices these days and so is film. In the video game world it's an excuse to lay off a workforce or close studios: get your devs to make a game then close them down for not making you money. See: the recent closure of Tango Gameworks by owners Microsoft.. Tango being founded by one Shinji Mikami.
I can't imagine films being much different? They'll know it won't make money. For instance I'm a big fan of the 1995 animated feature Balto which, as pretty as it is, was a flop thanks to limited theatrical screenings... yet Universal still made two dreadful direct to video sequels, which also flopped.
I imagine they're hoping it'll give some return on their initial losses with WtRC? Production companies have always been at this though and it never works.
So 357 finished the repaint of my Damtoys Leon sculpt. Have to say I'm pretty happy with the result.

The transformations of these repaints always amaze me. Some of these painters are Insanely talented.

Looks a lot better. Did that custom paint cost more than the figure itself?
Last time i asked, they charged 260$ for an HS, excluding Paypal fees and shipping

This is why i try to paint it myself even if i butchered the job i refused to pay the price of the figure for someone painting a sculpt that i have to send to them just to paint it, It would be understandable if they made the headsculpt and charge for paint service but just to do the paint job and charge that much is ridiculous.
I'd probably sell you mine if you're interested? Only thing is I've customized the sculpt somewhat.

I understand this point of view, a lot of people think like that. But to be really fair, it’s not ridiculous. It is a job. It requires skills. A lot of trial and error, a lot of time spent. It took years to be that good. The techniques they developed may be a secret trade. The paint they used, the brush they used, it costs money. And with the result like 357partment, it’s pretty great. With that price, people are still on a long waitlist. Maybe, it’s just not in our budget, yet. Collecting “dolls” costing more than a hundred dollars per “dolls” may be ridiculous for some people too. They just didn’t understand it.
Now you are learning and painting for yourself. If you’re getting better, and your skill match the best painter in this hobby, then someone asked you to paint theirs. You can make money from this. Would you paint theirs for free? Would you try to find out how your skills worth by asking around how much other painters price list? Would it still ridiculous to value your time and skill?

I'm not trying to diminish they skills, only stating the asking price of they service is too much. It would be like hiring a painter to paint a house but you have to provide everything yourself.

That analogy goes against your point somewhat. You still need a house for them to paint, much like in this hobby you will need the sculpt.
With the long wait times, the painters aren’t struggling for customers so the service isn’t too unreasonable for many.
I will play devils advocate and say the paint work on a lot of 1/6 official figures should be better and more in-line with the prototype so to that extent I see your point but the issue there isn’t with the customisers or painters.
I think end of the day your attachment to something determines its value.
