I don't expect them to stick the landing, however the set up looks promising.

Sideshow actually approaching the license in a way that makes sense? I almost can't believe it.

I don't recall any issues with Sideshow bodies in at least five years - last I heard was I think the TOD Indy body broke frequently and the unique Jawa body was a disaster, but that's nearly a decade ago.
People forgetting the Grievous reissue and the Clone Wars Anakin and Obi-Wan disasters?

Looking at the plastic boots, which appear to be re-used for most of the figures, and the re-use of belts, and possibly the cloak, the photo implies a budget release.

However, it's Sideshow so they'll likely be Hot Toys prices for what may be little more that Disney Premium/Elite style figures. The 'Limited Edition' thing won't help either.

Nevertheless, I'm probably going to want them all. :lol

I have their Gambit figure from a year or so ago, and I'm happy with it.

Following the Clint Eastwood collection thread, people seem happy with those. It's very much a 'what you see is what you get." Some folks didn't like the sculpts, but the figure turns out like the proto.

I think folks just don't like their sculpts, and don't buy them, and just express their disappointment from that angle. Not a lot of people buy their figures, and post about it here.

I hold out more hope for Sideshow than I used to. So many times we thought Sideshow was going to finally turn a corner and step up their all round quality, and then something would invariably let them down - usually sculpting, painting and bodies because their tailoring got pretty good, and their weapons and accessories had been at a higher level much earlier.

I think the Clint Eastwood collection has been their turning point. I have Josey Wales and the Preacher and in hand they felt like game changers for Sideshow. Good sculpts, paint, bodies and clothes. The sculpts have a slight cartoon quality by design, but on that pair it's minimal. (The upcoming Will Munny, which I pre-ordered, may be more problematic).

They dropped one ball with Josey by making his Colt Army Model 1860 as big as the Walkers, which was a shame as it can't be used shoved in his belt to complete his fully armed look.

Nevertheless, I felt confident enough to pre-order their Tim Curry Pennywise.

Hard to really tell what they're going for with the continuation of their vintage Scum and Villainy series.

Nice to finally see some more OT aliens on the horizon. I've personally never been very picky with the Details/Screen Accuracy in this scale and as far as Sideshow's non-human characters are concerned, I believe they've generally done a pretty decent job. My last purchases were the Executor Bounty Hunters and there wasn't really a whole lot to tweak i.m.o. The Bossk v.2 headsculpt badly needed a repaint though (to go with the v.1 Flightsuit & Body). I also decided to exchange the plastic tusks on 4-LOM to match the actual metal spikes on the back of his head. Boba Fett got a Helmet/Armour repaint and the Hot Toys Chest Armour Vest (The SS ESB Boba Vest may be the worst thing they've ever created, but the light up Bespin Base is a classic). I'm definitely going to add The Snout Spy, The Devil Guy and The Walrusman (I'm still ok with v.1 Greedo...)

I'll probably pick up 2 or 3, even though they will no doubt be overpriced. I still have a bunch of SS aliens from the good old days when they were sub $100. For the most part they are pretty good fill-ins, especially considering that most only had a few seconds of screen time. I'm sure these new figures will be a marginal improvement cost around $250 or so (although sub $200 would be the sweet spot).
That said, hopefully these do well because I can't see HT spending the time and R&D to produce C-tier aliens that will sell a few thousand units each. I've long believed that SS should focus on producing non-humanoid aliens, creatures, vehicles, environments, and background droids rather than trying to go head to head with HT on A-tier Star Wars characters.
While I would prefer to see HT take on B-tier human/humanoid alien characters like Oola, Aayla Secura, Savage Opress, Shaak-Ti, Aurra Sing, 2nd Sister, I would be okay with SS taking them on provided they improved their portraits, matched HT scale rather than the old bobble heads they used to put out, improved the paint apps, and outsourced the bodies.

The clone wars bodies were disasters. The Anakin and Obi-Wan were straight cracking in pieces and falling apart. Many people got MANY replacements. I stayed away from the due to that and the price even when they had their sales. Now, my Dude figure is excellent. But it's not like El Duderino is doing any excessive posing. My Jedi Luke from them isn't bad either. But yeah, Anakin and Obi-Wan had a disasterous launch. That said, I'm still interested in these because I don't expect hot toys to touch them anytime soon.

UNLESS of course SS is trying to get these out before HT does.
Given that Sideshow is HT's U.S. distributor I imagine there's a non-compete clause as part of that arrangement - i.e., they probably got the OK from HT to proceed with these figures as HT has no plans to make them now or in the foreseeable future. Having said that, there have been quasi-overlap releases in the past like Clone Wars Ahsoka, Anakin & Obi-Wan, but for those HT went with lifelike sculpt & figure interpretations vs. SS's animated look. That situation doesn't apply here.

Hmm. Colour me interested, particularly for any Kenner characters like Greedo and WalrussMan.
They all look awesome (no fur on Walrusman sculpt but I guess that's okay.)
Interested in Greedo and Walrus Man, not sure if it'll be enough to open up shelf space but they'll look great on display I'm sure.
... and The Walrusman (I'm still ok with v.1 Greedo...)

Respect to anyone still using their Kenner names
Now we just need to add Hammerhead in his blue leotard-onesie, and Snaglepuss in his silver go-go boots! :p
