Blink Twice - 7/10

This went from an intriguing mystery to ultimate girl boss revenge story so fast it gave me whiplash. Still entertaining though.

Slingshot - 6/10

Another interesting mystery/sci-fi story that couldn't quite stick the landing. Also, the whole movie has the cinematography of a cheap TV show.

Cuckoo - 6.5/10

Strange horror/sci-fi/mystery that's hard to describe without giving away spoilers. Basically, there's a weird creature/person chasing a chick around at a resort and bizarre stuff happens that's never really explained.

Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring: 9/10

A great movie in almost all ways. The best of the three and it should have won the awards that went to the third entry. Casting, acting, direction, cinematography, pacing/editing, music. Often with classic books you expect to see it updated in film for "current" sensibilities every now and again, but I have a hard time imagining why anyone would want to make this into a film or TV show again. Unless, perhaps, they want to expand on things the movie didn't cover from the book. After all this time, it still surprises me that the studios put this much faith in Peter Jackson. I was a fan from Dead Alive and the Frighteners, but I didn't expect he could have stuck the landing nearly as well as he did.

I only have very minor criticisms with the movie lagging in some parts of the latter half, and some dodgy CG in a few places (though the fact that they did it even better almost 25 years ago than some can do it now is a testament to the quality of even that piece).

I haven't seen this yet, but I give this film credit for their willingness to cast a trans woman in what seems to be a straight up female lead without (as I understand it) making it gimmicky or sensationalizing it for promotion.

I had no idea that character was played by a trans person until you mentioned it. Yeah, that's how inclusion should be handled.

Love lies bleeding - 8/10

Great action/thriller in the vein of David Lynch. Kristen Stewart and her love interest are very good in their respective roles, as is David Franco. Ed Harris sports some eye watering hair extensions and there's plenty of gore and dream/hallucination sequences to make it a great B-movie to enjoy while having a beer on a Saturday night.

Out of Darkness - 6.5/10

Minimalistic thriller/horror set in the Stone Age. Very effective in its simplicity. You can see the twist coming a few miles away, but it still works. The monologue at the end isn't necessary, but modern audiences probably wouldn't get it otherwise. Another nice B-movie to enjoy on a Saturday night.

The First Omen: 4/10 : I usually say most films get a 5/10 just for being made competently.

This film changed my mind. What a steaming pile of corporate nonsense. Every single scare in this film is derived from another film, they don't even bother to try to be original . The main characters are so boring and obviously phoning it in.

The effects are terrible, one scene using what looks like a department store mannequin for a body....predictable moment with aweful effects.

It rambles and rambles , with alot of choral singing soundtrack which I suppose is supposed to be scarey.

It's the worst film I have seen in a decade.

How this thing gets an 80 on RT from critics. And 70 from audience is beyond me.

I suppose if your a religious hysteric having the "devil" in it is enough.

This film came straight out of the corporate board room, where they obviously said "hey remember that in x film???? Let's do that, no one will notice!"

I am surprised Poochie didn't show up.

It gets a 4 because it didn't have boom mics in the shots and the locations were good.....

Jim Henson: Idea Man

Not sure how to rate a documentary like this. It's no Errol Morris film but it was directed by Ron Howard so it was competently done.

It had most of the folks you would expect to see well represented, particularly Frank Oz and Henson's wife and kids. Was a touching tribute to one of the most important influences on my own childhood, and one of the most important creative forces in entertainment. He was a genius, and this documentary shows why.

I didn't realize they weren't allowed to write their own material on SNL, and that the head writer hated the Muppets so much, which explains a lot of why those segments fell so flat. I also didn't realize Henson was responsible for so many iconic shorts on Sesame Street that didn't have anything to do with the Muppets. I realized Oz was a chef in one of those so maybe I should have put two and two together.

Rebel Ridge

The reviewers loved this movie (96% on RT) but for an action thriller/western-style movie it just trudged along. Aaron Pierre's lead character was kinda one-dimensional, there was little tension to speak of and the set-pieces were underwhelming.

I'd be interested to hear more positive takes on this, 'cause I was just bored the whole way through.

Outlander (2008) - 5/10

This is pretty much the "Predator vs Vikings" story that has been suggested by fans for a Prey prequel. While it isn't likely going to blow your socks off, it's definitely better than its low profile status would have you believe.

The Young Woman and the Sea -- 7/10

Decided to give this Daisy Ridley movie a shot, about the first woman to swim the English Channel in the 1920s, and thought it was surprisingly pretty good. Story is your standard, feel-good biopic and doesn't do anything new, but it's still effective enough and has you really rooting for the character by the end.

Not sure I ever quite got used to Daisy's American accent though. Lol

Oh yeah, I remember this! I was quite entertaining IIRC. Might have to look it up.

Not a movie, but I finished watching Scavenger Reign a few days ago, and it's absolutely brilliant. It's like watching a Heavy Metal Magazine from the 70's come to life. And not the overly T&A/horror type that was the 80's Heavy Metal movie, but really the more surreal/sci-fi take of the Moebius/Druillet/Caza era.
Really outstanding stuff. While not as lavishly animated as Love Death & Robots, the story is certainly right up there with the best of LD&R.

Both the animation style and design actually looks great. Added to my watchlist...

Bad Boys series
Rewatched all of these plus watched the last one Ride Or Die for the first time

Bad Boys 6/10 ok start to the series but lacks the style to come. I really like Tea Leoni in this one.

Bad Boys 2 9/10 one of the great action films, terrific chemistry and banter, astounding action. Just non stop Bay insanity.

Bad Boys For Life 7/10 surprisingly great non-Bay. Adil & Bilall need to move on from this series now and show us what else they can do. Maybe the best villains of the series.

Bad Boys Ride Or Die 6/10 probably the most disappointing of the series. The action, hissable villain and banter are all there but the inciting incident of Marcus believing he can’t be killed and everything else that goes with it just doesn’t work for me and is a bit too ridiculous (even for this series). Plus they recast Theresa - unforgivable.

She is so underrated...

Boy kills world 8/10

Lots of pop culture references, humor, bloody, violent, Skarsgård is excellent in the role.

Twister - 8/10
I guess you could say this rating is more based on the nostalgia of seeing this film again than purely on the film itself, but damn did I enjoy watching this. Must've been some 20 years ago since I last saw it. It took me right back to a simpler time. When people where still friendly and less selfish and the world didn't seem to be falling apart minute by minute. For almost 2 hours I felt like a kid again, free of worries.
I loved every second of it, the characters, story, visuals and a brilliant score. No deeper message, no (identity)politics, just a good old fun film.
