Blink Twice - 7/10

This went from an intriguing mystery to ultimate girl boss revenge story so fast it gave me whiplash. Still entertaining though.

Slingshot - 6/10

Another interesting mystery/sci-fi story that couldn't quite stick the landing. Also, the whole movie has the cinematography of a cheap TV show.

Cuckoo - 6.5/10

Strange horror/sci-fi/mystery that's hard to describe without giving away spoilers. Basically, there's a weird creature/person chasing a chick around at a resort and bizarre stuff happens that's never really explained.

Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring: 9/10

A great movie in almost all ways. The best of the three and it should have won the awards that went to the third entry. Casting, acting, direction, cinematography, pacing/editing, music. Often with classic books you expect to see it updated in film for "current" sensibilities every now and again, but I have a hard time imagining why anyone would want to make this into a film or TV show again. Unless, perhaps, they want to expand on things the movie didn't cover from the book. After all this time, it still surprises me that the studios put this much faith in Peter Jackson. I was a fan from Dead Alive and the Frighteners, but I didn't expect he could have stuck the landing nearly as well as he did.

I only have very minor criticisms with the movie lagging in some parts of the latter half, and some dodgy CG in a few places (though the fact that they did it even better almost 25 years ago than some can do it now is a testament to the quality of even that piece).

I haven't seen this yet, but I give this film credit for their willingness to cast a trans woman in what seems to be a straight up female lead without (as I understand it) making it gimmicky or sensationalizing it for promotion.

I had no idea that character was played by a trans person until you mentioned it. Yeah, that's how inclusion should be handled.

Love lies bleeding - 8/10

Great action/thriller in the vein of David Lynch. Kristen Stewart and her love interest are very good in their respective roles, as is David Franco. Ed Harris sports some eye watering hair extensions and there's plenty of gore and dream/hallucination sequences to make it a great B-movie to enjoy while having a beer on a Saturday night.

Out of Darkness - 6.5/10

Minimalistic thriller/horror set in the Stone Age. Very effective in its simplicity. You can see the twist coming a few miles away, but it still works. The monologue at the end isn't necessary, but modern audiences probably wouldn't get it otherwise. Another nice B-movie to enjoy on a Saturday night.

The First Omen: 4/10 : I usually say most films get a 5/10 just for being made competently.

This film changed my mind. What a steaming pile of corporate nonsense. Every single scare in this film is derived from another film, they don't even bother to try to be original . The main characters are so boring and obviously phoning it in.

The effects are terrible, one scene using what looks like a department store mannequin for a body....predictable moment with aweful effects.

It rambles and rambles , with alot of choral singing soundtrack which I suppose is supposed to be scarey.

It's the worst film I have seen in a decade.

How this thing gets an 80 on RT from critics. And 70 from audience is beyond me.

I suppose if your a religious hysteric having the "devil" in it is enough.

This film came straight out of the corporate board room, where they obviously said "hey remember that in x film???? Let's do that, no one will notice!"

I am surprised Poochie didn't show up.

It gets a 4 because it didn't have boom mics in the shots and the locations were good.....
