1/6 Sideshow Labria - Scum & Villainy

He'll be a "very limited" Sideshow Exclusive.

I now see why they chose him with that head of development guy saying Labria was his all-time fave from the cantina, but it's such a strange choice for a SSC revisit to the cantina versus Hammerhead 2.0 and/or Snaggletooth.

Even Labrun Leids (four arms + gas mask/goggles) would have been a strong choice over Labria if you wanted to stray from Kenner like they did with Garindan and Labria.

Evazan is fine as he's a nice duo with Walrusman and has maybe the second most prominent cantina creature role behind Greedo.

I really worry that poor sales of Garindan, Labria and Evazan (weak character choice at time of too many 1/6 choices, and as always with Sideshow, price, especially because people know what they're getting) is going to whittle back the ROTJ line-up by half.

I'm probably in for this as that close up in the cantina is really memorable for eight year old me. I've already got Ponda and Greedo on pre-order so will likely snag this and Garindan and just acquiesce to the fact that I'm going to go in on these and the Jabba's Palace figures despite their price tags. "This is why you fail"

Just popped out to Disney plus to confirm. He is indeed still there!

I've watch A New Hope, at minimum, 50 times in my life. I legitimately cannot recall seeing this character. I guess I'm going to have to watch again and pay really close attention in the cantina.

It’s because he’s essentially a blink and you miss him character. He doesn’t do anything. Looks cool but that’s it.

He was just a guy in a devil mask to fill out the cantina.

I'm pretty sure the actor was a woman, unless it's a guy with great eyelashes

Labria was his alias, real name Kardue'sai'Malloc.

Kardue'sai'Malloc's mask was created by Rick Baker.

Kardue'sai'Malloc was portrayed by Penny McCarthy[16] in the original trilogy film Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope,[3] which was released on May 25, 1977.[17] The character's shots were filmed during additional photography[18] in post-production where supplemental footage was created for the cantina sequence[19] on a sound stage in Dovington's Hollywood studio between January 24 and 25, 1977.[20]
Makeup artist Rick Baker created the latex mask used for Kardue'sai'Malloc for an early 1970s John Landis film pitch that was never released called "I was a Teenage Vampire," and it was then used in "The Thing in the Attic," a Halloween show by Bob Burns in 1974.[21] By the time it was used in Star Wars, the mask had been altered by shortening the horns and removing a beard.[22] The character was called "Louie," "the Devil,"[18] and "Devil Guy" on set.[22] The mask was later gifted to Burns and his wife, Kathy Burns, who then had it partially restored for display by Tom Spina Designs, as it had become distorted.[21]

The pleather tunic is probably the dealbreaker for me on this fig. So many PT Anakins and Star Lords with the same tunic/coat type - peeling.

What a curse pleather has turned out to be in 1/6, and you'd think after 15+ years of very high end 1/6 figs the issue would have been solved by now.
