Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

The collar shouldn't be folded down like that, you're seeing frayed threads because that's the inside of the shirt. It's a Victorian collar, it should be up like this.

It came packaged folded down. Plus you can see in Ombudsman's photo that mine is messed up in comparison. I'm just a bit picky considering how much it cost :(

The only thing I see wrong with yours is that you don't have it displayed properly. :dunno

GodParticle, they're right mate. Go futz it (as I just did) and you'll see the collar is clearly supposed to be up. Not sure how I missed that-just so focused on getting the scarf to hang right I never noticed it.

I'll need to upload a new picture when the sun hits tomorrow to undue my shame from posting poor Tom with his collar folded down. Mine came that way too by the way.:1-1:

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

I did the same thing. I had no clue, since he was that way in the box. LOL. I like it better with it up!

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

Ok, I'll see how it looks up. I guess the scarf covers it anyway

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

I got my Tom Baker figure on Thursday December 12.
I love it! - from the neck down.

The face was nothing at all like the face on the prototype.
It had a nasty looking 5 O'clock shadow, and the rest of the
figure's face was too red & rosy looking.

So, I took out the ultra fine grain sandpaper.
I sanded off the 5 O'clock shadow.
I sanded gently on the rest of his face, to even out the
flesh tones.

He looks much better now! I'll post pics soon as I get a new
digital camera, because the old one is no longer working
properly.

All in all, I would have to say I'm satisfied with my Tom Baker
figure - but am wondering how many of you have also applied
any modifications to your own figure? I have modified at least
20 of my figures in a similar fashion.

The face was nothing at all like the face on the prototype.

And there's me thinking that my eyes had fooled me when I saw it at the event. :lol

Well looking at peoples photos here I'm banking on having to do a full re-paint, and maybe even a replacement head If I have the time and energy to sort it. :lol

Makes me wish I'd got Tennant now for out of the two I think he's the most successful.

I'd like to see what your Number#4 looks like after you've repainted his face.

I'd read on Big Chief's Facebook page how a few collectors were unhappy with the face before they'd even received theirs, due to the difference between the prototype and the finished, mass marketed result. I've had to fix flaws on quite a few figures of mine, and it's happened to both low end and high end collector figures.

I'm glad I have many years of model building experience behind me! It's helped a lot.

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

I have to be honest and say that I haven't been satisfied with any of the production photos that have been posted.
The head on this and 10 looks like a cheap knock off of that shown on the proto photos. In those, there were facial details, skins tones, and texture. Every production photo is featureless, flat and smooth.
Now, I'm no photographer, but my Joker head shots highlight all the features in the figure that were evident in the proto.
I don't want to hear about BC not being able to meet HT standards, as this figure is costing twice as much in total for me, as my Joker Mime version. I expect a minimum of a similar standard, where I should could better . Thus far, I am not impressed.

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

I will resist continually posting my photos which I admit will never equal those of some of this board's better photographers (which, when compared to me admittedly, is almost everyone :rotfl),
I can't resist some pics with his collar upright!

The collar is not buttoned but it is Christmas after all. He's relaxing (and my big fingers can't manage it:lol)!

Ombudsman, I think your photos are terrific!
I wish I could take pics as well as you do!

Yeah I know what you mean, although as they're still fledging company with a lot yet to learn I'm still cutting them some slack, but I do find it annoying that these figures still seem to be loosing 'something' when they go through the manufacturing process, and in the case of Tom an awful lot seems to be lost.

I wonder If anybody will be up for producing a run of some more accurate scarves as their one is really bugging me now I'm afraid.

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

I'm sure someone in the customs section will sort you out for a couple of hundred bucks.

Or I could have ago at making my own, eh? :lol

Just been watching a Dr Who anniversary documentary again and I'm quite staggered at how strong the colour s of the real scarf is compared to the very light, almost pastel palette they've used in this figure.

Re: Big Chief Studios - 1/6 Doctor Who - #04 Tom Baker

Yeah I agree with that. The scarf's colors are too soft. They should be much more vivid.

I love how you posed Tom. Wonderful!

Oh, that's very nice of you to say. Cheers guys:hi5:

While I agree it's not what perhaps it could be, somehow with him sitting here staring at me with the whole beautifully tailored ensemble (which I love) I gotta say I'm still pretty impressed. I'm probably easy to please though as I've wanted a sixthscale 4th Doctor for a long time. But I don't know; it's pretty close. I hear you though on the scarf, it is very faded overall compared to what appears on screen.

I agree. I've wanted a 1/6 scale 4th Doctor for so long, I can overlook a few details. Yeah, the sculpt got smushed in the molding process and now looks more like Adrian Brody than Tom Baker, and mine is missing one of the buttons on the back of his coat (it's not in the box, I looked), but still, he's mine.

This is a my grail piece, and I love it, imperfections and all.
