Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I'm not very familiar with any of the Xenos, but does the new Warrior appear to be any different than the original release? I really wish they would just make these all plastic so they aren't forced to stand like a Kenner doll.

Yeah, the 1.0 and 2.0 versions are like night and day. I have four of the 1.0s from various Alien films and they're constructed way different. The 1.0s had amazing range of motion and articulation, but that also caused problem with joints getting loos, the feet almost never stayed in even when new, and they had to put together, which wasn't easy. It was very hard to get the legs on the ball joints for me, I even broke the leg of a Dog Alien trying to get it on there, even using the hair dryer method. :(

The hips, knees and elbows were all well covered joints, but not totally encased in rubber like the new one, which is why I still like the old ones, even though they have their flaws as well.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Seeing them together like that really makes the v1 looks like it was a regular warrior that had been killed, then left in the sun to dry out and decay for about 3 weeks.

Reminds me how I need to get creative with the display as I have both the brown and blue v1. I don't think i can display them 'together'.

The new one really is a substantial upgrade when you put those side by side. I hadn't realized how much of an improvement it was until seeing those.

Being as though this is kind of a catch all Aliens thread these days, I thought I'd post this. I picked this kit up a while ago that a member here did (can't remember who, got this one on eBay) to fix the crappy hose attachments for the power loader. It's a set of machined metal pins to replace the plastic ones that break off if you look at them wrong.

I also have the old power loader, and was tempted to get those, but it seems like he was charging something on the order of $100 for them? I would have paid $15 or so, but wasn't willing to invest nearly that much to fix the old one.

I already have a Big Chap, but I won't mind one bit if they make a 2.0, as long as it's actually improved and is more screen accurate, it'll be an insta-buy. If it's basically the same, then I guess that money will go towards other Alien(s) figures they announce, hopefully some Colonial Marines.
Same here. I've got Hicks (with custom head), Hudson (with custom head), Ripley with power loader, big chap, Kane, and Dallas. I would consider upgrading every one. I would LOVE to see them tackle Dallas in his more conventional look. Same for Bret, Ash, etc. But they won't.

Thanks for that. Jesus, you weren't kidding. The original head looks very clunky and cumbersome, but I imagine it will have the edge in getting it posed correctly.

Yeah, the old one needed it's tail to help keep it upright in most poses, which is a major drawback, so in that regard, it was easy to pose but not at the same time. You can do some awesome stuff with them and hot toys dynamic stands though.

Hot Toys and artistic liberty go hand in hand whenever you're talking Aliens or Predators. For better or for worse. Don't get P. started!

I know what you mean. From the pics of the new Warrior, I think he may have to be relegated to staying in a Big Chap style pose and nothing too dynamic. Although, I'm not really upset over that. Just a little lurching stance is enough for me.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I still remember waiting with baited breath for official pics of the first one. The board initially really liked it (if I remember correctly). Of course, that didn't last long when the thing fell apart rift out of the box.

Same here. I really like how the Big Chap looks standing so I imagine this one will look great too. And then I can have my 1.0 warrior lurking in the background...
I have no idea how much HT will go back into the Alien universe but we probably should be pretty happy with what we're getting now. I won't expect them to go deep into the marines or anything like that and I'm happy to own the Dog Alien as I don't think they're going to touch Alien 3 again. But what do I know. I would personally prefer if they didn't reissue too many of the old ones but do characters they haven't done before as many of the old ones still look good to me with a bit of modding. Ripley is of course the exception - we really really need a new Ripley.

I wouldn't hold my breathe on the Marines... and even if they got that ball rolling, I'm sure they'd only do Hicks and Hudson probably.

That reminds me, if they ever decide to go back and do a real 1987 Predator (not the Classic release) I'd love for them to do Dutch and his unit. But HT doesn't like granting wishes anymore, just like with us never seeing a Reese.

Yes, the kit was about $100. Expensive for sure, and not for everybody. The pins are custom machined and a worthwhile upgrade, in my opinion.

I agree, too much time has to be devoted to Star Wars films that will be getting released every year, plus the 4-6 comic book movies it looks like we'll be getting every year for the foreseeable future. Great for fans of those, but bad for classic sci-fi and horror figure fans.

They did do the original Predator as well as Dutch and Billy. They were decent figures, but not without their flaws. They could all benefit from a rerelease up to current standards.

Setting out to prove that under this excuse for a paint job hides the face of Lambert. Stay tuned.

Excellent plan. I have an extra Kane figure that I always planned on using for a custom Lambert. You may just have found the solution to finding a decent head sculpt. Now there's no need to chuck the old Ripley figure into the trash. I just hope we get the 2.0 Ripley made available as a single figure, as well.
