Here's a pic of my (almost) finished PL Ripley.
I still need to modify the wristwatch and futz the hair a bit more,
but I'm pretty much there. She's 11-3/4 inches now. Close enough.

Watch the film again and take a good look at jones the cat and then look at ripoff Snyder's cat.

You come pretty hard in this forum. I am going to repeat it: "Well, I guess we dont have the same opinion. It works for me and way better than the one Ripley comes with. "

It's because of the price. $139, and a couple weeks ago it was $179 on eBay. The sculpt is barely acceptible; I've seen better cat figures by plastic figurine companies like Papo, Schleich, Safari, etc... they cost about $4.00, but they're in the wrong scale. The guy who is selling this cat makes some good head sculpts, but this cat, and it's scalper price, are specifically aimed at we who bought the HT Ripley and got a crappy cat with it. I can't abide greed, especially when it's laser-focused on a target market. And, it only costs about a dollar's worth of resin to make it. The painting work is extra, but... it's still greedy.

I don’t think the cat is anywhere near worth that - because it’s not very good - but on the other hand it’s about what one of their painted head sculpts cost, so it shouldn’t surprise you... and all custom heads and stuff is aimed for a specific group or a specific figure - so don’t see the problem in that at all. And comparing the price to the worth of the resin doesn’t really go well in this forum. We pay insane prices for very small things here.

You make valid points, so allow me to DESTROY them one by one...lol
I said I hate greed the most when it's focused on a narrow market; It's like a mild form of victimization. There are plenty of other sellers who focus on a target market in the same way, but they AREN'T greedy in their pricing.

We pay high prices for head sculpts, (ideally Hot Toys quality, let's say) that closely mimic skin by being slightly translucent, solid-colored vinyl. Vinyl is totally different from resin, which is the lowest quality material one can use for a head sculpt for several reasons.

As far as the paint job is concerned, I can understand paying a higher price for a professionally painted head- but this cat has simple orange stripes and a few simple details. It doesn't require the time or skill that a human face portrait would. Conclusion: It's a rip-off.

Looks nice!
One thing always bothered me was the pants pockets. No matter what I try, it's just too thick and stiff! Also the zipper on her left side pocket should be vertical. Once you see it, you can't let that go....:lol

Yeah, the stiff pockets bother me to this day... I plan to come up with a fix, but I don't know what it might be yet. Maybe some bandable wires on the inside. I had forgotten about the one vertical zipper until you mentioned it; now I get to stare at that too...

Thanks for the compliments. I can actually LOOK at my Ripley now without feeling embarrassed- which is the reaction I had to the original HT version.

Edit: I have the solution for the stiff pockets. I have this great stuff, aluminum foil tape. I'll just cut a piece, fold it in half so it sticks to itself, then cut it into a rectangle that fits inside each pocket. Then the pockets can be molded in a curve to fit the legs. I can add another layer if needed, to increase the holding power.

Ahhh horrible memories have come flooding back, those damned pockets, now I remember why I left Ripley in the power loader box, well that horrible head sculpt as well.

^
looking great.
and i cannot do anything with mine. nothing changes, it's still Brian May. :gah:

That looks really good. You did a better job on ALIEN Ripley, and I did better with my ALIENS custom, regarding the hair. (I bought two custom heads, one for each version)

Because of the curl, I think this custom head lends itself more easily to the ALIENS shorter cut. You did better than I did with the ALIEN version, but I haven't devoted much time to it yet. You've inspired me to get back into it.

If anyone is looking for a Hot Toys Big Chap to complement the Ripley figure, shoot me a PM...
