I must be in the minority, but the HT helmet looks perfect. Tie pilot helmets were huge and the actors were pretty short, so they definitely had that bobblehead look in the film.
It's not the size of the helmet, it's the sculpt that's bugging me. At first glance it looks elongated, which would be par for the course for Hot Toys.
There it is. It's the apparent narrowness that makes it look 'long'. I used to own the SSC and think I prefer their silhouette. The helmet sculpt is really quite solid but I'd say where it falls over a bit is the volume of the dome is less than it should be (ie costume helmet has more volume and appears wider/fuller) and the overall width of the face at the "jawline" (ie area directly either side of the "teeth" - between the "chin" and "ears") is too narrow on the HT sculpt.
These two inaccuracies make the overall "face" seem too narrow and also make the face seem too large in proportion to the upper dome. You can see in the costume helmet the area below the "eyes/goggles" is roughly equal to the area above, whereas on the HT helmet the lower area seems larger.
I'd also say the shape of the HT goggle lenses is a bit off too, but those were hand-cut on the real helmets, so they vary slightly anyway.
It's still a great sculpt (I'd say the SSC helmet sculpt is slightly more accurate, but this one is sharper in detail and the Imperial emblems more accurate than the SSC) and these issues are not close to being deal breakers. The fact that its gloss black also hides a lot.

I can't recall. Weren't they cones on the AT-AT driver helmet?I'm now also annoyed at the chrome greeblies on the ears - they're supposed to be flat discs, not cones.![]()
FINALLY we're getting Two Tubes!! I'm SO excited!!! Oh wait....OMG... finally...
Two different back plates... and two different belts? I didn't even know.
Would have preferred the two different helmets.
They can be both, but the onscreen ones have flat stepped discs. For some reason 1/6 versions of the TIE pilot (SSC included) seem to want to do the cones.I'm now also annoyed at the chrome greeblies on the ears - they're supposed to be flat discs, not cones.![]()
The belt on this new HT version looks pretty skinny to me.Not sure I want to spend the money to replace my Sideshow one, but I’m a sucker so I probably will. The belt on my Sideshow one is very worn looking.
It’s not the proportions I’m worried about. Mine is falling apart. The belt on this new HT version looks pretty skinny to me.
