Well, it was December 2016, so 9 years (without wishing to split any hairs, rooted or otherwise). More than double in price? No, that doesn't seem reasonable to me to be honest.
If they'd made the "C3PO in a bag" an option, and a standard figure without as the base, then that might have given them a decent single figure price - but $430 is just crazy... IMO.
Now you say it, I completely agree that within 10 years a double in price is mental. I don't think I will be buying this as the value doesn't seem there, I was contemplating but it would be a mistake as I'm not a main SW collector.

So a base option without C3PO, well, I don't really know what accounted for that high price tag, I can't believe a partial C3PO could be that much extra cost, maybe it's the wool hair rooting of the entire body but probably not either. So it's probably HT just overcharging for what you're getting.

You said $430 is crazy, so are you ok with spending that on other artisan figures? You being a long-time figure collector have a different perspective than me as a new collector where things 10 years ago was cheaper by half.

$430 for any single figure is crazy to me, whether it's so called artisan or not. I'm not the biggest collector by any means - I have about 50 1/6 scale figures - so may not be the best person to get advice from.

I guess I'm lucky enough to have started collecting back when bricks and mortar stores in the UK actually stocked figures (yes, I'm that old) and to have built up a core of "essential" figures (essential to me) like Darth Vader, Indy, Luke/Han/Leia/Chewie etc etc, before the prices got to the point they are at today.

I gulp at some of the 1/6 prices now though - what was a hobby that I could spend out on reasonably frequently has now seen me drop to a couple of figures a year, bolstered by eBay purchases and my own kitbash efforts. I'll spend money when I think it's worth it - the Jazzinc 89 Batmobile for one was one I couldn't miss out on - but $430 for a single figure is an easy pass.

- I quickly realized UK prices now are super ridiculous vs HKD prices (more than double what we pay here in Asia)
- Since starting last year, I thought <$300/200GBP a figure was pretty affordable but you've given me some perspective.
- Found it a little bit funny you're willing to spend $1500 on a vehicle but not $400 on a figure, I'm the opposite of you in that respect, I can't bring myself to buy a vehicle at the price + space considerations. But with the amount of $ you save not buying figures, you spend less than i do with my PO's racking up.

Indeed. The Chewbacca figure - if I buy it from a UK site - is £470. Just shy of half a thousand pounds - batshit crazy.

The Jazzinc Batmobile is a huge piece, and, to me, the cost reflects the size and scale - it's still expensive, but one figure for £470 vs a model of the Batmobile at £1200 - I know which I'm happier paying!

Just went back through my receipts, and the Star Wars Chewbacca I bought in 2016 cost me $220. Allowing for inflation, pandemic, post-pandemic, I still can't get my head round $430. Especially when that goofy face sculpt just doesn't do it for me. So glad I still love my Chewie and don't feel the need to double dip on him.
I guess HT are considering this two figures. That’s a similar price to what I paid for the Han/Chewie two pack in 2015 lol.

I'll order this at Popcultcha soon and use rewards to take it down a little.
The price is ridiculous.
I'm a huge Chewie fan.
I have to think that this is a setup for Bespin escape Leia and the eventual Bespin Han.

Maybe even a Lobot 😉

Hot Toys would have an easier time being accurate if they started with this and then added the hair.

As I've said before, movie Chewbacca's "mustache" is not bushy, it's more like a "Fu Man chu".But Hot Toys makes it bushy to cover up the fact that the base headsculpt is all black.
