Doubt it. Still a scam and a violation of eBay policy to sell a figure that’s not going to ship within 30 days of payment. He also had “reviews” and positive feedback about having sold and shipped the v2 of Dr strange. Hard to see that as anything other then a scam.

I hope everyone who spent $500-700 learned a lesson that patience pays off. I kept telling people in FB groups that another would be along eventually. Granted, I didn't think it would be this soon.

Anybody who overpaid either has money to burn and doesn't care about the price, or is brand new to this and thought this figure was one and done. I do not feel bad for those who have been collecting for a while and still chose to pay.

Yeah an item is only worth what people are willing to pay, there are plenty of idiot buyers, or maybe dudes to whom money isn’t an issue, however resellers are not without fault, maybe not in this case or most HotToys, since we have a pretty easy shot at getting them for retail, we def had plenty chances of getting DS1 so cant blame people for wanting their figure to retain its value now that it sold out...however resellers and scalpers are vultures that ruin just about any collecting hobby...certainly ruined the experience of collecting sneakers for me....just picture HotToys popularity and figure rarity increasing by a large margin and now you find yourself competing with bots and staying up all night waiting on a release simply to be able to get at retail, because now the aftermarket is inflated beyond comprehension...yeah ***** RESELLERS.

I don't ever see a scenario in the future where you have to compete with bots to preorder a Hot Toys figure because it will sell out in minutes. I have zero interest in sneakers but from what I know about sneaker collecting it's really not even in the same ballpark as 1/6 collecting when it comes to scarcity of product. I watched a really interesting documentary about sneaker collecting a few years ago, and when they got to discussing how stuff sells out in seconds I just immediately though "wow, this sounds like an absolutely horrible hobby" lol.

Hot Toys want to sell figures and clearly try to accurately predict consumer demand so they sell enough to make a good profit, but they also don't want to have so many left over that the figure hangs around for months and months after release. They want to strike a balance of healthy product sales but also don't want any sense of "cheapness" associated with their brand because of overproduced figures that get steeply discounted. You can see it now that they are fiddling around with their production numbers since a lot figures are starting to sell out before release, yet a figure like the Vol. 2 Starlord maybe they overestimated the numbers since that was around for quite a while it seems. I honestly think the TFA and Age of Ultron lines were a shifting point for them where they realized they were making WAY too many of each figure.

IMO, the idea of pre orders leads me to think that they probably have a model to follow and produce XX amount more than whats been pre ordered based on many factors. Character and licence popularity, history of previous "like" sales, market research, price point, who knows what else. Maybe every figure is made in different quantities.

Of course I'm a musician and my opinion could be worth a Mandarin figure. :lol

People who overpaid are in an unfortunate situation but besides that, the original sculpt is really overrated. I think this one is very superior and its the reason why I waited. There's a comparison pic in my instagram link

The single most underrated Hot Toys figure. Quality wise, he's right up there with Doctor Strange

Even though I don't have one, I completely agree. It's shame his character in the movie turned out to be such a joke, otherwise this figure would be more popular.

In my mind he's the real Mandarin that Trevor had plastic surgery in order to impersonate... It's the only way I can have him on the shelf next to Red Skull...
The tailoring and likeness on that figure is uncanny. If you don't have him I really recommend him. Especially since you can get him so cheap. I think I paid less than $100 shipped.

That's definitely not true--the original sculpt is easily one of the best Hot Toys sculpts I have ever seen in person. Ever. However I do agree that the new sculpt is overall better, simply because the face looks a bit less elongated than the first.

Oh no. I was about to order a figure at Popcultcha and was contemplating finally adding a Mandarin for $100...

Those people paying $700 are the reason Hot Toys is greedily re releasing this. They are looking at those eBay prices and decided to chase after that money. If those buyers were not willing to pay over retail doubtful hot toys makes this figure again so soon with such little change.

If anything people who want this should be glad Hot Toys is making a new version rather than stupidly forking over triple the original price in some cases on the aftermarket. This will undoubtedly be more than the first version but still overall less than getting the original release and they’re pretty close to the same figure.

I doubt that the aftermarket price of the original is the single motivating factor for Hot Toys. It's not greedy to release a product that there's a demand for.

Agreed the aftermarket price on eBay means nothing. How many were sold at really high prices maybe 20? I have the 1st but might pick this up to go with my eventual Thanos surrounded by Cap, Thor, IM and now maybe DS.

I have the urge to buy 20 to recreate the seen where he multiplies himself to fight Thanos. Must. Resist. Temptation
To Buy. TWENTY!

Edit: my bank account just told me that there was no shot way in hell I could afford twenty of them. So I guess one is going to have to do. I have the original but the accessories make this one worth buying, as well.

I don't understand why people keep using the word greed when referring to HTs. They are a business and like every single other business, they want to make money. There is obviously a demand for this figure so why shouldn't they make another? I would only assume HT looks at the demand of a certain figure based on how many retailers have sold out of said figure and not based on whatever the aftermarket price is.

Keep in mind also that this is a new figure, it is a new head sculpt, which takes time to build and start the manufacturing process. They made this call to make this figure a year or more ago. They didn't just look at the hype and the price tag on ebay and go "oh we should do another!".
