Yep doesn't look bad. The helmet is certainly flatter looking on the face. BuGz photo shows that very clearly. As nice as it is I still think I'll stick with the Deathtrooper, Shoretrooper and Tanktrooper. And maybe mix my Sandtrooper in there with them.

These aren't bad I guess, but the lack of a tapered look on the ankle/lower leg armor and that awkwardly positioned paldron really take something dynamic away from the design. The helmet looks a little strange, too - almost like the proportions are too symmetrical.

I was comparing one of my HT Stormy helmets to screen shots of this earlier today, the eyes are very different; the ANH helmet eyes are more pointy in the corners and the lens portion is more of a convex bubble, this new R1 helmet has much rounder eye corners and the lenses are very flat. More subtle differences are the white area around the chin of the R1 helmet is a little thicker and the loops of plastic around the ears are little thinner when compared to the ANH helmet.
It's really the eyes that set this version apart most.

Go to the 11:00 mark, it's all about the bucket refinements for Rogue One.

The guy speaking asks do you reproduce "how people remember something, or how it really was" - but the ANH stormie helmets - especially the hero helmets - are seen in extreme close-up in ANH a few times. So it's very clearly visible on the blu-ray, it doesn't just exist in people's memory.

If they were only ever seen in wider group shots, I could understand making the design change (which I actually like by the way - making everything seen quite practical) but that's not the case, so this to me was a somewhat ill-advised change. If Rogue One was set a decade before ANH, you could sort of argue for it, but it's supposed to be the exact same time period.

To me, the new RO helmets have a slightly old Don Post mask look too - i.e. not like real stormies from the OT, like a copy they couldn't quite get right. The eye lenses especially look very different and halloween mask-ish, and the ear details and chin grill just look very noticeanly different when you're closer.

If they didn't change the eyes so much it wouldn't be as big a deal, that change there is no good reason for (make it symmetrical, fine, get rid of the bump, okay) but they changed the shape and made it look a little less badass. That's just a mistake no matter how you look at it. I always knew this movie would date ANH the day it came out. That didn't seem to be much of a concern to those involved. They've done so many things right, but probably just as many things wrong.

His backpack contents look so literal: Coffee thermos - check! Dumbell curler - check! Toilet roll dispenser - check!:lol

:rotfl Hey at least this guy has a plan, if the imperials are going to rule the galaxy you are going to need essential items and something to pass the time. Unlike the shoretrooper who shows up to the party in Hawaiian armor and slacks!

The toilet roll dispenser just seems so ideally situated too.:yess:

I don't mind them retconning the helmets, cause this is basically what they're doing, but you are 100% correct, they do just have that subtle hmmmm to them. Probably not enough for the casual fan to even notice, but most die hards are going to at least think something looks off.

For me, it will prevent RO from seamlessly integrating into ANH (same with the RO Vader looking so different.) It's no biggie obviously, but it would really have been great if they had simply put the Vader and stormie (and other OT) costumes on the copier and just replicated exactly what they were in 1976, warts and all.

I mean if used in RO, the only people who would have noticed the imperfections (that SW panel guy in video is describing) are the diehard fans. And yet they're the only ones who are now going to notice the retconned details. No casual fan will notice it - so it's self defeating in a way.
