Vader looks great in that shot, Lu! I had a hard time getting a good shot of him cause of the glare. It looks like the cape might be improved over the ANH version.

Lu, great pics!

What figure is the real stand out for Star Wars?

Believe it or not, I think I liked the Jyn Erso PF best out of everything I saw! I wasn't even going to consider anything from RO, but that PF is making me really want a 1/6 of her. I know everyone's been saying the costumes for the movie look like cheap-y SW wannabe SciFi channel stuff, but hers really looks great.

Not the best pic, but IRL there's a great Star-Wars-y feel to the look.

But like I said before, I actually like the "new" RO stormtrooper redesigns, and IRL they look great. Something about all those nice sharp, crisp lines that makes them look really fine. Vader looked great, but it does seem like an amalgam of the ANH/ESB because of the shiny dome and the robes being under the shoulder armor. FO Rey and Luke looked great too. Wasn't too impressed by the Deathtrooper specialist, TBH.

And I was impressed at how good Sideshow's bounty hunters all looked. Lots of great details in them all. I think the least impressive might have been their Fett, but I think that's just down to poor futzing since I think mine (which is the original Sideshow one), looks fine.

I did notice the cape seemed to have a hem. Unfortunately you can't see it in the pic I took:

when I first looked at e pic with VII Luke I did a double take. I though someone was being funny. Because of the glare it almost looked like he had a pair of shades on..

Other than the face looking a bit baby dollish (the SSC PF apps are still not where they need to be) the Jyn PF does look nice overall - something about the pose that's working.

I agree the RO costumes in general feel more Firefly/Serenity than Star Wars, but they kinda work in the context of the "war movie" thing they're going for.

And great pics, Lu - keep 'em coming!:clap

That antenna thing on the orange pauldron Stormtrooper's backpack is pretty tall. Definitely would have to leave it off in order for it to fit on my shelf.

I hope it comes with an E-11 this time as well. Don't know why they couldn't have given an extra blaster to the white pauldron version. I like having more display options.

I don't know what it is, but these RO stormtroopers just look cheap somehow. Not sure what it is. Maybe too simplistic or the helmet looks like something different to Hot Toys ??

The RO sculpt is slightly modified, and thus it doesn't keep the flowing organic lines imagined by the talented Brian Muir for the OT Stormtrooper.

I think a better description than "cheap" would be that they look mass produced, which is what they would be in a real world situation. If you were outfitting an army, you would have a lot of armor produced by the lowest bidder.

A lot of what has endeared people to the OT armor is the flaws that came out of the less than stellar methods used to produce the copies of the hand sculpted armor used in the 70's. This process ended up giving each Stormtrooper a more unique look. With modern manufacturing techniques and the conscious decision to refine aspects of the armor, we have ended up with a more sterile, uniform look.

Good, bad, it's all in the eye of the beholder. I personally like the refinements, for the most part. I can appreciate the beauty and uniqueness of the original armor, but I have never been a fan of reproducing obvious manufacturing flaws. I prefer a more idealized reproduction, as it would be if it existed in universe and not as if it walked off set cracked, dented and taped up. That's just my opinion, though.

Most of the complaints on here are about the short leg armor and narrow chest armor that makes the proportions look pretty strikingly different and not in a great way. They may have had reasons, but neither of those were mold errors on the original that they were trying to eliminate. None of that has necessarily bothered me when I see clips from the film though. The helmet, where a lot of asymmetry and bumps were present, are kind of the smallest of issues with these new figures IMO. I just don't think that they would co-mingle well with my OT versions side by side. The ROTJ ones were pretty different as well.

I am interested in picking up some parts like the canvas pack though. Think that one is pretty cool. Though I haven't looked closely as to how they're attached. Could be magnets.

The thing I like most about the orange pauldron trooper is that his backpack has arm straps that would hide the narrower chest plate. If I was only going to buy one R1 basic Stormtrooper figure, it would be the Orange pauldron trooper. Since I own the amazing HT OT Sandtrooper, I have no need for the R1 version.

Yeah, the helmet I'm actually okay with overall and like the design principle they've used (though the rounded lenses look "cute," not menacing - more like sunglasses.) The body proportions look the most odd to me - breast reduction, long torso and stumpy legs mostly.

But I get the logic argument that the "real" armor would be mass produced, and I don't mind the lack of individuality in the stormie costumes onscreen as TonTon is saying (they also really do make an okay match to OT armor moving onscreen,) but I feel that HT's replication of that smoothed clean-ness, symmetry and lack of detail in the new 1:1 armor makes the HT figure look too lacking in detail, almost like you're looking at a pic of a 6" figure or a knock-off "generic" rendition of an OT stormie.

The new stormies really are sort of cool in their own way (I'd take these over more PT clones or ducktroopers any day:yess:) but I can't help but feel a bit sad that the only opportunity to see OT troops (just as they were seen in the OT) in action in a new major movie has been lost.

There's really no logic other than Disney wanting to do something to differentiate the new troopers from the OT, which justifies new sales of merchandising.

Or else we're looking at an army that changes overnight (a few hours before ANH begins?)

It's the way of the world. In every new superhero movie the costumes change, even if slightly.

The thing is that from now on we might only see these RO troopers made in all kinds of merchandise.
