One huge plus of this figure are the first gen web shooters, those alone make this tempting

What is the reasoning for people thinking this figure is too expensive? Is it because his clothing looks cheap and home made because, well, Peter dressed himself... Or is it because people are wanting a "real" Spidey figure and consider this just a money grab. It's not like Hot Toys offer many figures for less than $200US these days, and we've had some pretty plain civilian looking figures like Pepper Potts over the years.

It's an extremely simple thing for HT to produce. This doesn't seem worth $200+ when you compare it to other figures by both HT as well as other manufacturers. It's a simple outfit covering a a standard body that they'll reuse on another figure, nothing extravagant when compared to HT's Doctor Strange, Rocket Raccoon, Drax, The Punisher, or Daredevil that have more complex outfits, more accessories, and might also have unique bodies that are price very close to this minor costume variant Spider-Man figure. A few little plastic eye pieces, one head covered by a simple balaclava, a second actor likeness head that can be easily reused, and some small web pieces are on the low end of accessory count for $220. Bear in mind that the most expensive aspect of 1/6 scale figures is either a unique body or the costume.
It's a very well done figure that doesn't justify the price imo.

Yeah, it's not an exciting outfit.. (Hot Toys can't control the look of their movie figures) On that basis the T-800 Guardian was well over priced at $235US... unless you are allowing a bit for the second head sculpt. Nothing extravagant about that figure either. I'm sure there must be other simple civilian figures (Pepper Potts as mentioned looks like an expensive Barbie)

As a few have already said, the price is hard to justify. This should be $180 - $190 tops. I think sideshow jacks up the price to account for people using coupon codes, then they rip you off on the shipping.

I wonder if there is a chance there will be more to this homemade costume release announced after the movie comes out, like we have seen with Civil War War Machine where significant weaponry was added to the figure...

It's possible that the homemade costume has significant screen time, maybe even the costume worn in some sort of final battle after his costume from Stark is either damaged, destroyed, or taken away. If so, then perhaps we might get more accessories related to such scenes, including perhaps a head sculpt which reflects a more war torn Peter Parker.

Of course this is all speculation on my part.

This figure looks "Amazing" and it might be more used in the movie than you think because it looks like he's battling the vulture in this suit

I like it but won't buy it. The only thing that really looks out of place is the biker shoes/garden shoes/crocs or whatever you want to call them.

Closest '90s comic fans will get to a Ben Reilly Hot Toys figure. But not something I'm all that interested in. Will most likely get the "hero" costume, though.

That looks like onesie pajamas.

Get it together, Parker!

Whether you like the homemade suit or not, it's safe to say he'll be wearing it for more than two minutes.;)
